These are 2 of my hens. Lilly has the smaller comb and wattle and Shadow has the bigger comb and wattle. My question is why is Shadow's comb and wattle bigger than Lilly's comb and wattle? They are both around 4 months old. Here are some pics.

Hens can mature at different rates. Looks like Shadow may lay before Lily. It could just be that her comb will be larger too.
 
I had one hen with larger comb and wattles that I thought was growing into a roo but she laid an egg and that solved it, but I have no idea why, bloodlines I guess.
 
Nope, she's just a big combed pullet.

Nope, no roo-like hinkjc said the hens mature at different rates. I've got a group of 6 comets, all purchased the same day from TSC and 4 are laying and 2 are not. 5 have combs and wattles and 1 does not-go figure!!
