Why is this site so slow loading?

I think it is all the 'extras' and ads on the side of every page. It is loading slower for me too.

I don't know how much web surfing you do but I am finding most other sites are shoving cookies to track people down our throats. one site that saves your computer and scrapes off all the tracking cookies is free to download and even gets around some of the trojans that really drag down your operating system.

the paid version does auto updates and timed scans. the free one does not. the first time I ran it I had over 400 tracking cookies removed!

I am able to turn off ads and the column on the right and the site is still slower to load than before and still slower than other sites that I visit. I hope they continue to work on it as it means I get through way less threads than before.

Same thing here. Still slow as my wifes 97 year grand-ma.

After unchecking all the gee-gaws (avatars/sigs/etc). and still crawling (am assuming 56k dial-up with max connection speed, i.e., 52k), it is probably time to try a browser like kmeleon: http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/

Used an earlier version of this on P3/Winxp/dial-up (crummy ISP aggregator - Level Three Communications - had 52k speed SOLID, with UUNET channeling MSN - level 3 never faster than 46k...).

Other folks might have had better luck with other lightweight browsers (chime in).

Am running through Chrome replacements at present as Google is piling on cwappola.

(liked teletype machines and the Usenet Universe - low slow and definitely showing my age).

I'm sure Nifty will be tweaking away on the implementation and filing down the speed bumps (BYC has substantial membership out at the end of the `telegraph copper' - though most of my relatives - in the back-of-beyond in TN - have all gone mobile :  ).

It's very slow for me too. When I hit the down arrow to scroll through a thread, I hold it down for a couple seconds and then let go. A few seconds later it'll jump down a post or two.

My ISP is WildBlue, and my browser is FireFox 9.0.1

With wild blue and a few others they have a bandwidth throttle that kicks in after a set amount of net usage. Check that first.

I've found that once in a while one of the adservers seems to have a problem displaying an advert. When that happens, the site 'hangs' for a while, waiting for the ad to load. Once in a while, things lock up and I have to exit the browser. Your slowness might be due to this as well.
