Why on Earth is it called "Andalusian Blue"?!

OK, this is probably just me being the crabby person I am in the mornings, but why do breeders and enthusiasts call the color "Andalusian Blue"?

Andalusian is a breed and the color does not even breed true. Other breeds have the same color so why not call it blue? The true blue color should have the lacing, the self-blue/lavender doesn't?

Why the Andalusian up front?

well maybe because it was first documented on that breed..? do you know there are about 4 ways of making blue chickens?...

Yes, I am sure RoPo knows the different ways of making blue, especially since they have Poultry Science degree from one of the, if not the, best Poultry science programs in the nation. It also annoys me that they call it Andalusian blue. Its either blue or it isn't, seems pretty simple to me.

True, it may have been the first documented breed, but it's also misleading? It's describing a color with a breed name for every breed with that color?

I'm quite sure he does nicalandia, he was in the same program I was. You forget there's also the "mutant" blue color that comes from stock that have no known blue ancestors. More than 4 ways...

As RoPo said, I also was a part of the same program. I was also a National Collegiate Poultry Judge. So, to answer your question, yes I am familiar with the blue variety, and how to make it. I have raised several different breeds in the blue variety.

Who is "they"?

It doesn't seem so bizarre, to me, that a gene gets named after the breed in which it was studied & of which it is a breed characteristic.
I don't know, but it might be the earliest blue breed. It is a rather old breed.

I was looking Punnett's Heredity in Poultry & Hutt's Genetics of the Fowl; they described B^SD as a blue. Does this allele of B look blue? If so what shade? I've never seen it. What does it look like? Anyone got pics?​
