Why the sudden strike?

I have 55 hens and I collected ONE egg this morning. My eggs sales requests have gone through the roof and I get ONE stinkin egg??? I had 55 hens around my feet this morning, hollering at them that they are all slackers and for all the treats I give them, shelters that are built for them, etc., and they repay my kindness with ONE egg.

I am getting tired of the one egg thing too!!!!!

I have 13 in the laying house...

4 are boys
4 arent laying yet ( or maybe one is?) that are about 19-20 weeks
2 are new-ish so i dont know who is and isnt laying
2 are new-ish but not so new-ish. dont know if they are laying
1 is a banty which hasnt laid in a bit.


Im trying to give them time but 1 egg will not feed us LOL!!!

i have 16 week olds that should be making me happy soon

The high temperatures as well as the shortening daylight causes this almost each year.

The hens are not eating as much because the temperatures are so high. Because they are not eating as much to sustain egg-laying and general good condition, they are getting out of "breeding" condition. So, survival is the main goal at the moment, egg-laying ceases to sustain life.

The daylight is starting to shorten, although it may not be enough to cause any big difference, is also a signal to start preparing for winter, so the birds will begin the process of molting.

It sucks, but still part of the birds' normal cycle.

Ugg...50+ Chickens, 3 eggs. I think its the heat here.

Well, all that wasted breath earlier. I came home to 9 more eggs. 55 hens gave me 10 eggs today. I guess that is better than a spur in the thigh.

I cant get rid of my eggs, I cant even give em away, I hard boil several dozen every day and feed em back to the girls to get rid fo them.
