Why would a rooster crow in the middle of the night?

Mine crow whenever there's something to wake them. . . Whether it be the fact that they woke up and noticed there was a little bit of light outside, or a rare lightning storm is going on, or us being awake woke them, etc.

Your rooster is a highly intelligent creature. He is alerting you to the fact that the sun has just risen in another country. If you will listen closely you should notice that his voice is different because he is crowing in another language...mine do this as well. I am so proud of them.

Sometimes this seems as sensible an explanation as any, I must admit.

We had to cull a roo the other day. I don't think I've heard my lone roo crow since. They certainly used to hold crowing competitions.

AH HAH!!! Dang if he isn't one of the smartest roos around!!! I thought there was a bit of an Australian flare at the end of the second crow!

Ah you're lucky he only crows once or twice and then goes back to sleep. One of my roosters crows at any time of night, and often. I can hear him anytime between midnight and dawn if I am awake. Silly roo. I haven't pinpointed anything going on, it's just every night whenever he takes the fancy. Poor hens that share his coop must be sleep deprived...

Mine will crow in the dead of night if something is prowling around and wakes him up. I've gone out a few times when he crowed at very odd hours of the night and there's always been a reason, possum, stray cat, one time a skunk.

I have had one Rooster(Rockey) and one hen for a year now he just crowed for the very first time at 3 am not 5:30 and trust me u can set UR clock to my boy always same time, same crow! Lol Anyways I just got new females so I thought it was that, I go out there sure enough scurrying away from my house is a Raccoon. So I thank God he is smarter and hears better then me plus I think the new girls are a bit too why he still is crowing now at 3:45 because Coon is gone. I'm not sure but I would say different roosters crow for different reason's and we need to realize mother nature,God has put there instinct in them for a reason that we don't always need to understand just make sure they're safe try to go back to bed.
