My chickens roam loose and I have the same issue. I don't care if they poop on the porch, we've got a hose out there and it's concrete, so easy to wash. But, my in-laws whose house it is, do mind.
It's not perfect yet, but I have trained a lot of the birds. There is a definitely defined "yard" area around the porch, surrounded by railroad ties to prevent the sand from eroding during rains. That gives them a marker to tell them where they are not to cross, which I teach them not to do by making it an unpleasant place. Since I am home all day, whenever I see chickens within the forbidden area of the porch or yard, I run at them with a broom, and make broom to chicken-butt contact with them whenever possible. Fewer and fewer birds are hanging out on the porch now.
I use a scraper and a dustpan, I just pick up the globs when I see them then hose it down, but I only have 3 that go on my pool deck looking for me
I'm sure dh doesn't like it but he hasn't complained yet, probably because I don't let it sit there long, but I have a pair of flip flops I use for walking on the grass when I can't see the poop, I have a dog I walk and am used to picking up after him, I do the same with the chickens in the yard if I see it I don't want to track it through the house either.
I have found that if you don't throw treats right out the backdoor and if you actually carry the food or treats out to a different area, that is where they will hang out.
Every time I go outside, my 6 girls come running. They hang out on our cement patio all the time. I had my hubby put one of those hose holders on the side of the house so I had EASY access to the hose. I am forever hosing down the patio... and if someone doesn't like it... they don't have to visit. I do, however, hate when they poo on my door mat. See they like to stand on the outside of the sliding door and look in. They are the poop'n-ess creatures I have ever seen... and mine are bantams... I would hate to see what full grown chickens would do.
My DH isn't exactly interested in my chicken obsession so I've decided to make sure that I would "do unto him as I would have him do unto me" and keep my obsession out of his way. He is more than happy for me to have the chickens as long as he doesn't have to deal with them in any way. He has his hobbies that I don't take part in and I would hate it if he let them invade my space. So with that being said, if you can't keep the chickens away from your wife's space, pen them up or enclose the porch. The chickens won't feel neglected and your wife will feel loved and her feelings appreciated. Life is too short and marriage too hard to add another irritant.
