Wii? X Box ? What it the most fun game system for family X-Mas

We have never allowed our kids to have any video games...and yet one survived to turn 18

This year we have been discussing possibly getting one that the whole family can use for Christmas. I was thinking a Wii but are they as good as I hear?
I mean I grew up with Packman that's my gaming limits I NEED all the help I can get and I really appreciate real reviews from people that have used them not what some highly paid employee puts down about their products.
SO Sell me on which I should by and why..how well do they hold up? Ease of use..we have an almost 5 almost 7 an 18 and 2 parents well like I said grew up with Packman and The Million Dollar Man

I know all of the programs no matter who makes them are way too expensive so that's not a big consideration for me right now.

I got my kids a wii last christmas and I think they used it all of 10 times... It has sat in the closet for at least 6 months... my nephew has a wii and loves it... he saved his money up himself and bought it when it first came out... I wish I bought another system

We got a Wii also...my son plays it when every else is done!!! We now have the Wii FIT that goes with it... and it's actually a lot of fun, plus you're supposed to lose weight...and i can see that...lol. My son and believe it or not my husband play baseball.... DH almost took out the lamp one day...but that's all he'll play, he hates the thing...
I sing on the band game, only b/c the kids don't know the song or words and i know most of them, plus it's NOT cool to sing, they'd rather play guitar or drums...LOL

If I could change things, the thing I would change would be to never have brought any of those systems in the house. A few of the boys will do nothing without much argument because they are always gaming. They don't do sports because they want to play video games. There are alot of things that they could or should do, but they don't. Because they sit in front of that box.
It is quite addictive, really. I think it is better that they go to a friends and play and at home watch tv, play a board game, go outside or read books.

It would be one of those rainy day or family fun night type of things..possibly even get big brother to play with little siblings..oh that may be too much to ask for

It will also be in my living room so we keep control over it and it's on "neutral" turf.

Haven't really played a WII, X box is alright. PS3... Well I'm always on the PS3, free online gaming (sort of, you use your internet but don't have to still pay the monthly fee that Microsoft charges on the Xbox), still has my favorite games (like call of duty), has a blu-ray player etc etc... Not to mention the Xbox 360 has problems often, they fixed it in most of the new models but people still occasionally get the red ring of death. You'd be surprised the times i've posted on forums from the PS3, hung around on youtube etc

We had alot of fun with the wii- but my daughter mostly made "mii"s- the people- instead of actually playing games. My son has an xbox 360 (refurb) and it didn't come with the hard drive. If you get one- you have to have that to save your stats or something. He plays online with all his friends, and has a headset. Doesn't even need to use the phone- talks to his friends on there.

One time his headset had a malfunction,and everything the kids said was broadcast through the TV, and they could hear me doing the dishes. We had some fun with that

Granparents are springing for nintendo DSIs for x-mas. Thank god- no way I could afford that. Not too much to do here in the winter, and as long as they spend some time reading, I don't mind if they play & socialize with the games.

I'm not really sold on either of them.

X-Box does not really have many family games. It's mostly, hunting, fighting, army, all that yucky stuff.

Wii, has TONs of games, especially for the family. Such as board games on it, and mario. But the controllers can be hard to use and a pain. Plus Wii seems to have some problems. I know 4-5 people who Wiis broke for no reason a year or so after they bought it.

Personally I'm not a fan of either. But I would go with the Wii if it was my choice. They probably aren't as buggy anymore. I think it was just because everyone wanted one so they mass produced them to get them all out, and slacked on quailty.

My old favorite system and still is is the Game Cube. Which is just the old verison of the wii. But I don't think they make games for it anymore, and probably not even the system. So you would have to buy used.

Oh I also love my playstation 2, although I never really got into it. So maybe look into a playstation 2 they are cheap now, or playstation 3. I can't comment on PS 3. Because I do not own one, or played it more than a few times. They have some good games, although not as many for the family as the Wii.

We have a wii. We love it, we have mostly family games, bowling, archery that kind of stuff. Then we have all the band stuff, everyone loves to play that.
And we have some games that make you think.

Yes. If your looking for family games that aren't played much. I agree. Wii is the best for you probably.

Most of their games are family centered. Where other systems are mostly made for teens.
