Wii? X Box ? What it the most fun game system for family X-Mas

We had both an Xbox 360 and a Wii.

For a family or kids under 10 the only good option is a Wii. It's an interactive system, not something you sit on a couch glued to a TV developing ADD with.

If I was going to buy a gaming system for me only it would be a Sony PS3.

At this point most of the bugs have been worked out of all three systems.

Get the Wii and Wii Fit.

My kids and we parents pooled money about a year and a half ago to buy a WII. It is fun, and there are alot of games for it. As another person said, it has the most multiplayer games. That being said, the game system that gets used is the PS2 the kids bought with their own money. They figured out pretty quickly that most of the games at the used game store were for the PS2. The PS2 is the video game system that more games have been made for than any other gaming system. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the X-box 360 or PS3, but it is an affordable option. Because the PS2 has been out for awhile there are games everywhere, including garage sales.
My kids mostly buy their own games, so this is a factor for them.

My boys are 8 and 11.

I think my wife owns one of every gaming console ever made, except the X-box. She refuses to buy one.

I would say the Wii or the Playstation3 would be far better choices than X-box. I do a lot of PC gaming, and know a lot of gamers, and most of them rate PS3 over Xbox.

Our kids love guitar hero on PS3.

well my hubby does computer repairs ect on the side and according to him the Wii Doesn't break as opposed to the xbox 360 which ended up with the red ring of death as they call it lol, though he knows how to fix the xbox but apparently the Wii doesn't break, so I'd say you're probably better off with that, though there are more games for and all have better graphics on the 360, so I suppose it really comes down to personal choice on a lot of factors..
Xbox360 - better graphics and more games
Wii - Doesn't break, more physically interactive
IMO a 360 would hold anyone's attention longer than a Wii, but I hear and see from close friends that it's also fun
so again...
Personal Choice..
If you get a 360 and it gives you the ring of death, let me know and hubby and I can walk you through the fixing (properly, not the youtube crap that's posted that we end up having to fix on top of the original problem lol) mostly it's been fixed though in the newer models... Just make sure to keep it from over heating and you'll be fine...
Which reminds me of a joke my grandfather told me once...
Microsoft Works LoL

Basically the 360 is a computer with controllers that graphically focused... I guess that's the best way to put it anyway
eta: ps3 is good for guitar hero, but in my opinion as an actual guitar player, it's for idiots.. I'd personally give any kid I will ever have something that will make them think and if they want to play an instrument, then I'd get them playing that instrument, not some controller that LOOKS like one but has 4 buttons.... A reg. guitar acoustic or electric has 6 strings( and yes I know there are variations, I used to have a 12 string), which is more than 4 buttons and WAY more combinations with the 23 frets on top of it instead of 4 buttons and MAYBE 10 frets and a button/lever that is supposed to simulate the strumming and plucking on a guitar AND the Whammy bar that SOME not ALL guitars have, and any with a whammy bar I guarantee will be electric or at the very least, a 'souped up' electric acoustic. Just my 2 cents... and yes I HATE GUITAR HERO AND THE EMO CRAP THAT IS BRAINWASHING TODAY'S YOUTH. This is just my opinion though lol

I like music games, personally. They're not exactly like playing a real instrument (I play violin), but they teach rhythm, timing, and coordination. Often, they can be a bridge to getting a person interested in learning the instrument itself. They're also fun to play as a family, with each person a part of the "band." You can make up your family band name and even create your own character to look like you. Then the game shows your family on screen "rocking out" together.

It's fun.

I am a big fan of Dance Dance Revolution. I lost 25 pounds when I was in college (got rid of my "freshman 15" and more

) by playing DDR and eating healthily.

If you are REALLY hardcore, you can import music games from Japan and modify your PS2 to play them. Look up some YouTube videos of Beatmania and Pop'n Music. (Actually, I've heard that there will soon be a US release of Pop'n Music for Wii...but it won't be exactly the same).

depends on the age of your kids. We have 2 x boxes and will not go a day without playing one. the wii has it's own market and the PS3 is a great machine (on our wish list). Yes the xbox has its problems but with the facebook updates coming and the fact you can watch netflix movies through it instantly from your queue is a great plus. The live part of xbox can be great but there are alot of rude people on there but it is worse when the online is free (PS3). xbox has really grown it's games inventory, I think you should base your decision on what type of games you want to be able to play. Their are a bunch of kids games for xbox now that they used to not have many of. I have to say give the xbox some serious thought!! This is coming from a FAMILY that plays EVERY NIGHT!! Now granted my son is 16 but we have been gamers since before my son was even born. Just my 2 cents.
