Wild Duck in Flock

Thanks pirate, that helped me feel like I'm doing the right thing. I've slaved the past two days, doubling the size of my run and setting up for healthy play. The younger ducks now have plenty room to runaway and the black duck doesn't care enough to chase. I didn't think integrating new ducks would be this hard or take this long!

When I had integrated chickens it was a piece of cake. When I integrated ducks this summer it took a few months... far harder than I'd anticipated, but eventually everyone got along well enough to live together.

The older duck is a mallard. The younger ones will grow bigger than her eventually. She will likely always be the boss, but they will all bond eventually. They are flock animals. As long as you keep it safe for the time being, they will get used to each other with some patience. !

Since my last post here, I’ve set up a temporary barrier in my run so I no longer have to keep cleaning their inside pen so frequently. I put the older duckling on the side with the 4 month black duck and the older duck is pecking at her. I am not sure if this is what it looks like when they establish a pecking order, this is my first time integrating ducks. I would like the older duck to have a friend on her side but I don’t know if it is safe for the duckling just yet, and if it might just be better to keep her with the other ducklings. I tried taking a video to show you guys what it looks like but when I try to post it, the forum says the file is too large. Let me know if there’s a easier way to post it, thanks!

All I gotta say is that there is obviously duck math and not only chicken math...lol

Time and patience. I've been integrating chickens since June, so I feel your pain.
