Wild duck question

I made a nest box for the wild wood ducks that visit my pond. Was not planning to take/keep them, just wanted them to stay so I could have the joy of watching them. There were lots of tutorials online. The ducks didn't use it. I guess I should see if I shouldn't have done it. :hmm

Here in Wyoming it is common practice for the G&F to put up nesting sites for wood ducks. The key is that it is being done by the G&F and not by individuals.

From what I've found, landowners can set them up on their own land. Its actually encouraged to help bring the population back. Just can't mess with the nests/babies/etc.

I know here in the Midwest the government will pay you money and lease your property if you will agree to not hunt on it. It is intended for wildlife and anything that is done to further their existence is appreciated.
