Crossing the Road
I wanted to update this thread, as its been on my mind for a while.
The sweet girl disappeared a few months ago, during summer, failing to rescue her will always be my greatest regret. Ive kept a close eye on the area since then, and no new dumped ducks have arrived, yet.
I recently found a community page for the area online, where members are active, and found several posts about the "beautiful white duck" among the wildlife photos. It made me feel ill that so many including myself noticed her and never tried/succeeded to help. I joined the group and made an informative post about domestic ducks, how they cant survive in the wild, and how they're commonly dumped. It was recieved well, and members are seeing the post and saying they'll keep their eyes open for any new arrivals.
Hopefully we can prevent this happening again, or at least be more prepared as a community to help any new ducks. Sure wish I'd known it existed back when she was still here, back then all I found was an unused page
Rest in peace, sweet girl
she's with her sister now.

Strange enough, her mallard drake friend never left, he stayed with her protecting her until she was disappeared. And even now, he remains at the pond, I have a theory that he can't fly-- his wing sticks out ever so slightly, I believe it may be an old injury that never healed correctly. I visit him sometimes and make sure he's getting fed. What happen when the mallards fly off to migrate?![]()
