Wildfire evacuation

Pics
Haven't read through this thread yet, just the first post.

I got burned out of old Shasta in the middle of the night, so quickly that I lost all of my birds, along with my home. I evacuated I to town where I thought it was safe. Took my 4 dogs with me. While out running errands and getting dinner, the place I evacuated to also burned to the ground. Only 2 of my dogs have survived, as I could not get through the road closures to save them.
So sorry for your loss.

@sunshineflock and @ShannonR my heart is breaking for you. I pray God grants you that perfect peace and comfort that only He can give and pray that He also keeps everyone in the fire zone safe.

I'm in Northeastern Missouri, not known for wild fires although we do have our share of brush fires. Two years ago our neighbor started one that almost spread to our timber. When we found him he was sitting on a log between the fire and our fence, gasping for breath, face black with soot. He gave us a crooked smile and said, not worried about my place but I'm trying to save your timber. We grabbed rakes, shovels and sprayers, called the conservation department which is knowledgeable about brush fires. They sent an officer out to help. We all had to laugh. It was his daughter. She just shook her head and muttered 'Dad! You know better!' as she suited up and went to work.

That was a real wake up call for us.

We try to be prepared. We have important documents in a safe, all localized. Our medications are kept in a large tool box that can be easily closed and grabbed. There is a large van that we own that we can pretty much stuff with more stuff than anyone could imagine. I seriously do not know what I would do about my flock if the need arose. Once again, thank you for bringing this up. In spite of your devastating loss, you are still helping others, even here on BYC.

Please stay safe. Your BYC family is here for you if for no other way than a place to vent and a sympathetic shoulder to rest upon.

The red is active burning.
Yellow was active in the last 24 hours.
Black was active in the last 48.

I think your house is going to make it! :woot

I think so, too. Thank you for posting this. There are several fire maps, and many don't include dates and times. And there are discrepancies, which can be confusing. But so far it does seem my house is okay.

It's a miracle it hasn't burned. We don't get how they were able to keep it from crossing Placer. When we left my husband felt we were running for our lives, with the fire racing down the mountainside behind us and the exploding transformers and propane tanks.

When the evacuation and closure lifts, we'll go home and I'll waste no time volunteering with the animal rescue groups. They're in desperate need of help.

Hopefully the evacuation ends soon and you can get back to your house.

Wait, you mean the Carr Fire? This just happened to you? You lost two dogs in the fire? Oh, my god. Where are you now? Do you need any help? Tell me what you're needing. If they lift the evacuation order and let us go home, I can offer you some help.

So tired and neglected to mention your darling flock and home. Just sick for you.
Thank you. A lot more than the birds and half the dogs were lost, truthfully. I also left behind a cow, 2 of the goats I could not get loaded, and my cat. I did open all of the pens before I fled, so can always hope for the best! But, it being the middle of the night and everything, I doubt the birds made it.
