Wildfire evacuation

Thanks for keeping up with the fire, folks.

Our area opened late yesterday, and neighbors confirmed the power is back on. I also called the water district. We no longer need to boil water.

I'm feeling very upset and emotional right now. We have so much ahead of us, and I'm terrified of going back. We can walk to where they fought back the fire along the southern boundary, and yet from our house there's little evidence of this horrific fire.

Instead it's dense, endless manzanita and brush. Just a few weeks ago the Creek Fire was on the move just a few miles away. It was started by an arsonist, and he or she hasn't been caught. We're stuck in a home we no longer want. Redding never felt like home, but now we're anxious to leave.

One step at a time, though. I'll find my peace in this, and there's joy to be had. I can't wait to figure out how I can be of help. I also can't wait to bring my cats and chickens home. From the looks of things, it seems Henry and his flock are living the good life on a beautiful rural horse farm!! It probably feels like a chicken spa compared to our property.

If you're in a fire zone, put out tubs of water for the wildlife. But remember to include ladders so the little creatures don't drown. You can add bricks and rocks, a stool, just about anything will help them get some water and then safely leave.

Cheerios for the night. Time for a cool drink and a swim in my parents' pool.

Shedding tears of joy, sorrow and relief for you and yours, tonight. And sending all the strength and faith and peace I can muster ...
