Not promoting my Twitter account for selfish reasons. I only joined recently.

Take a look at what's happening with the Carr Fire and our home. Scroll back to this morning and read through to the current tweets. The 'Tweets and replies' tab will show all of my comments today.

There's good news and questionable news.

When we get through all of this, I'm going to write a BYC article on everything I learned.

YES!!!!! We're a learning community! Let us learn from and with you!

Henry comes home tomorrow.

I'm thinking epsom salt baths for everyone. For the chicks it'll be more like dips. They're wiggly little buggers.

Oregano oil on some blueberries for a week.

Scrambled eggs once they start laying for me again, doused with turmeric and cayenne.

Electrolytes in the water.

Custom full body fireproof chicken suits with wing compartments and ventilators.

And lots of mama time, which they always get anyway. Any other ideas?
So happy for you that your feather babies are coming home!:celebrate:love lots of TLC and spoiling will be great for everyone!!!!:thumbsup

In my prayers right now.

For the sake of all the rest of us, what would you do differently? You had enough of a warning to start a conversation, but for some reason when the time came, you weren't quite prepared.

I'm thinking that if I'm ever in enough trouble to post on BYC or FB or elsewhere for help, I should move beyond the planning into the setup, so at least I have the tubs and crates for the animals in the back for whatever I can grab...IF I can grab something. Or was there not even time for that?

Please keep us posted on how you're doing. I've looked up your location on Google Maps, ,but of course the satellite view isn't recent enough to tell me how your road is doing.

Prayer said. For you AND your animals. <3

AND this is an amazing community.
This comment is rather offensive.

Pray for me AND my animals all you want.

But if what you wrote is representative of how others are feeling, I think it's best I step down from this discussion.

I have to comment now.... No one is ever prepared.... Yeah maybe in hind sight... But there is no way to prepare you for the actual event.... NO way you can even understand the event Until you live it....

You've done great considering the circumstances and situation you have been in. You have been through hell literally. I have no idea how I would react or respond to such a disaster. You done well and shown exceptional resolve. I'm sure no offence was intended and everyone is praying for you and everyone affected. I'm so happy that you and all your animals are all ok.:)
ETA My chickens do backflips for sweetcorn!

I'll bet it wasn't meant to be offensive. We all know how weirdly text-only communication can be interpreted - in either direction. My guess is that @vivaciouswoman hadn't read the entire thread, yet and was reacting with the horror we all felt when we first read about your situation.

You've done a wonderful job of posting what you would have done differently - simply by communicating your stress and the way you had to act and react to a very volatile, dangerous situation. And, when you eventually get the distance and calm to revisit it all and write your article, you will be helping hundreds of others to prepare for emergencies of all sorts. Once you're really ready to do that, my guess is it will be very healing for you. We will all be thrilled when you do reach that point. It will signify that, not only are you ready to help others be prepared, but you have reached a new milestone in your own healing.

Stay Strong ... and know that you can cry and scream on our shoulders whenever you need to - before, during and after. The rest of the world will understand when they can ... or they won't ... and that's okay.

X 1000!
I haven't been through a firestorm (knock on wood!) but I have spent four hours during a series of tornado warnings in a finished basement with four cats, three dogs, a litter of puppies, a cockatiel, five hamsters, a guinea pig, a rooster, several ducks and a goat (who I couldn't keep off the pool table.) If I could have gotten the horses through the back door in time, they'd have been there, too. I was sixteen ... and my father almost killed me ... but Mom understood! My little sister was miffed that I left her pony outside, until I explained that she could jump the fence on her own to get away. I think I was forgiven ...

Well Carla, I am hoping your animals are home with you now.I loved the story of visiting Henry and the flock and spilling the feed! Love them little babies now, they grow up fast. Eggs will be on the way in a week or two I'm sure. Did you get your kitties home too? Don't worry about the past, keep reaching toward the future. Everyone does the best they can, not the worst. You did your best and all your friends are safe. Enjoy them and the bit of cooler weather!
