I got a new camera! Well, new to me, at least. It's a Sony A350, from 2009, I think. So it's not top of the line, but it's a big step up from my point-and-shoot! My brothers surprised me with it as an early birthday present. It almost made up for all the times they've teased me. Almost. 😝 Now I need to take some pictures with it!

Nice!! :wee:ya:woot:clap

Well, Mr. Camera has a few issues. The main one is that the sensor is dirty. Really dirty. Pictures taken in bright light, with a small aperture, have spots on them. Do y'all know how to clean a camera sensor? It's not just dust, it's stuff stuck on there. :(

You need to put it in mirror lockup mode to expose the sensor and the VERY VERY gently blow the debris off. If you can't get it with blowing and a dust brush, send it out to be professionally cleaned. This is one place you don't want to mess up.

There's nothing that will actually come off of the sensor. It's more like there's a coating on it that's peeling off. I put it in cleaning mode and took a look.

Upon closer inspection, I don't think it's a coating. It looks more like dried water droplets.
Ugh. There's a film on the sensor that if you muck it up trying to clean it, you're done. Are you close to a camera shop you could take it in to and have it serviced?

I've been doing this a long time. I don't mess with more than blowing dust off the sensors. It's worth th 90 bucks to me to have it services vs the several hundred to replace a damaged sensor if I mess it up.

That's probably what happened. I'll have to look around for a camera shop, there may be one around here. I tried blowing the sensor off, then took a picture with a small aperture. The spots weren't any better.

It might not be worth it. The camera value probably isn't much more than $90.

Here's a photo showing all of the spots on the sensor. I love how nice the photos are, other than the spots, much better than my point and shoot. I could, and probably will, crop this one to get the spots out of the way.
