I went fishing at Dauphin Island morning and I couldn't believe it when I saw some skimmers. I've seen a lot of photos of skimmers but I had no idea there were any around here.

I grabbed a couple pics of some but the sun was already high and I couldn't get a low angle. When the wind dies down I'm going to go back at sunrise and try to get some better pics of them....

Wow! Skimmers are such interesting birds, I hope to eventually see some for myself. I love how you were able to catch their skimming behavior! Incredible pictures.

This morning I was also fishing(I got not even a nibble) and I missed all the good photo opportunities, too. So, that was sort of disappointing. I have some slightly older photos I can post, though.

And then I took this at my cabin in Indiana a couple days ago. It’s not a great pic, it was getting dark and we were in a shady cove so it was extra dark.

Due to my device's little storage predicament, here's just my favorite of my recent-ish pictures. Sadly this red-winged blackbird wasn't showing all his namesake red. While I was looking through the pictures, though, I realized that he's banded!

It's been a good year for flounder so far....


This is a flounder bed (aka flounder track or print). It's where he was laying waiting to ambush his prey. When you see well defined (fresh) beds you know one is close by.....

And here he is about 20ft away...

Need to bring my good camera and try to get some better pics next time. Here's a few more from last night....

Do you use any sort of tripod or just have very steady hands?
