I just lost my Welsh Harlequin of 6 years 2 days ago. Her name was April Showers. She was a very spoiled house duck.
I have a house chicken who survives her. She's a Rhode Island Red, relativly young. She's a rescue named Sweetie.
I was wondering will Sweetie kill a new duckling? Or will she take her under her wing do you think?
Sweetie is the sweetest bird that walked the earth.
I'm a very new chicken owner. I had her since March. She simply showed up on my block one day. I've had my duck for years, but chickens are new to me.
Thanks for any help!

You would probably have best luck if she was broody (from what I’ve seen, I have no 1st hand experience but have researched quite a bit) I’ve seen lots of people put them under a broody hen during the night

You could do a slow interaction, put the duckling in a protective hold but where the RIR can see but not touch for a few days. Only you will be able to know when the time is right to allow them together but never leave them unsupervised until the duckling gets a bit bigger, better safe than sorry. No harm in trying but be prepared for the RIR not taking to the duckling.

What age duckling are you talking about? And always best when introducing a newbie to a resident duck chicken etc to do it in a see not touch way. Maybe set up a dog crate close by so they can get to know each other that way then when you can sit down and supervise them let them be together.

Metzer farm sells sexed ducklings so you could order a female! Only thing is I think their minimum order is 2 birds but you could always sell or rehome 1 if you’d like to! It definitely won’t work down the line if it’s a male but if it’s a female they could probably make great companions for each other, especially is she was already used to having her female ducky friend around in the past. Good luck, and if there’s a duckling, WE NEED PICTURES!!
