Will / do Pilgrim Geese eat Coy. UPDATE!!!!

Geese will not/do not eat fish. If the fish are very large I doubt the ducks would be doing it...unless they are some huge ducks. I still think it's a Raccoon. It could also be a large snake or a cat, too. How big are/were the fish?

Years ago I caught a garter snake in the office building where I work. Everyone else was running away horrified - snakes intrique me. Anyway, it was too cold to put it outside (it was Nebraska) so I kept it in my office in a fruit ripening bowl which was like a huge, clear, globe. I fed the snake feeder gold fish & guppies throughout the winter and then let it go near a stream in the Spring when the weather turned warmer.

BTW: One of the guppies had babies...then the office had to spring for a fancy fish tank which we then kept in our lobby...circle of life!

Snake, snake where’s the snake. I took your advice, went to Hone Depot the day after your post. They had hardware cloth size, ½’" X ½“ plastic bird netting”. Scrunched the end up and pushed into the hole/crack the snake had been coming out of, stretched and anchored a double layer across the pond. Either the snake has moved on or it isn’t hungry yet. Nothing can get into the pond without disturbing the netting and the netting hasn’t been disturbed. Thanks for the idea.

Roo, just wanted to thank you again for suggesting the netting. Haven’t lost a fish since I installed it. And it looks a lot better, neater / less obstructive to view on the pond than the hardware-cloth I had originally put down that didn’t do the job.

I haven’t caught the snake but don’t really care. It must have move on since it can’t get to its food source. Knowing a little about snakes: had many pet snakes as a kid and my kids kept a few over the years, it would have fed again by now if it could have. I’m very happy with the netting.
