Will Easter Eggers combs vary in size simply because they are mutts??

Does a significantly larger comb always mean roo in Easter Eggers or can the variance be bacuse they are mutts?

I got three the first week of March and just noticed one has a large pea comb while the other two just have bumps. I haven't heard any crowing, surely it would be crowing by now???

It can be because they're mutts, or it could be a cockerel. Some breeds are just slower to crow than others. I gave my neighbor a rooster i hatched 2/6, and he still hasn't crowed yet.

Generally the roos will have a larger comb that is also bright raspberry pink by about 6 weeks. My EE roo didn't start crowing until 13 weeks. Your suspect is also old enough to start getting hackle and saddle feathers and, if a boy, will have dark red patches of red on the wings.

im iffy on these the one with the big comb says cockerel the other says pullet but im not 100% sure

I'd say roo. I had a cockerel who didn't start crowing till gone six months of age and another who couldn't wait. Funny how they're all different.

Both of those EEs have classic pullet coloring. The big-combed one is confusing, but I'm leaning toward pullet because no hackle/saddle feathers and no red wing patches, all of which were clearly evident in my EE cockerel of the same age. You can check to see if any saddle feathers are starting to come in.

It might be a cockerel that is VERY slow to develop or (more likely, I think) a classically colored pullet with an unusually large comb. Maybe she's a tomboy!!!
