So from school i won 7 chickens, I got one rooster and it was fun but a pain in the butt to always be out there. I determined the breed not too long ago but i was wondering if my hens will go broody. I'm just wondering if in the future if i go out there and ones on her nest and is sitting on there because shes laying a egg or sitting on eggs.

I have had a flock of golden comets for about 3 years. They aren't known for it, and were bred for production of eggs, but I did have one go extremely broody last summer. Couldn't get near her without risking injury! I finally had to catch her off the nest to check eggs, and she had accumulated 46 eggs!! Yes 46. I removed most of them, and she hatched 5.

So to answer your question, it will depend on the individual hens. Usually if they stay on the nest at night, then you know they are broody. If they just sit a long time during the day, they could be "thinking about it", but I've known mine to sit for a couple of hours, and finally leave an egg.

Holy cow! 46 eggs! Well thank you for giving me theinfo i'd like a broody hen when they are slowing down on egg production and let momma raise them

Golden comets are egg laying hybrids that means that technically there are few chances of seeing one of them go broody but how WVduckchick said before it depends on the individuals hens ;)
