Will I have to get rid of my male Pekin duck Donald?

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Yep! Donald can stay. You won't have babies unless someone sits the eggs to hatch. But, you will want to keep your eye on Donnie boy when his hormones start a flyin'. That can be a dramatic personality changer for most young male poultry. Good luck with your flock.

thank you. Just wondering, will we be able to eat the eggs? If you collect eggs everyday, could you crack open a fertile one. My ducks are very young at the moment so I'm not there yet, but just wondering

Hi there, new to this page, but I need some help...
I just got 3 Pekin ducks in November, Daisy (female), Donald (male) and Dafinee (female) . They are all related and are getting along well. They were born October 20 I think. Anyway, I am worried I will have to give away my male Donald, because my family doesn't want to breed. Do Pekin ducks have a mating season and is there something a can do to stop him mating when he is ready to.

Thanks,

Lotte, and the ducks xx

You don't have to get rid of him. I have males and females together. If you refrigerate your eggs when collected it will stop the fertility of the eggs. I refrigerate my eggs and have had no issues. Fertile eggs have to be kept at a certain temperature in order for the eggs to continue to be fertile after the duck lays them.
