Will my hen accept chicks?

I do it all the time with m chicken every year and so do all of my friends I intro them play with them all together rarely have a problem... I have a girlfriend that only keep hens for 2 years so she gets chickens old and new all the time they do fine..i would hate to have a lonely chicken...
