I am brand new to the chicken world. I want to get about 10 chickens as day olds. I have 3 kids and want the chickens as pets and also for eggs. I have found sone that I like. Here is what I’m thinking and I’m wondering if these will be suitable together.
2 bielefelders
2 azure blue
2 isobel orpington
2 chocolate Orpington
2 Plymouth barred rock.

please let me know your thoughts on this mix.
Thank you!

I have 8 chickens representing 7 different breeds. I have a mix of bantams and standard birds, too. No problems at all beyond normal chicken politics.

Have fun! Getting chickens changed my life! ❤

You can mix any breeds you want into your flock especially if you get them all at the same time , only issues is when you add new ones to an existing flock then you have to integrate them slowly . I have 4 favaucanas,1 Austra white, 1 black australorp, 1 easter egger and 1 black jersey giant in my flock right now .

Thank you. I wasn’t sure if some breeds pick on others.

Some breeds are likely to get picked on,
mostly the ones with feathered heads as they can't see well.
The ones you chose look good.

But any bird can be aggressive regardless of breed.
Make sure you have plenty of space in both coop and run.
Bare minimum of 40sqft in coop and 100sqft in run.
ETA(for the 10 birds you list)
Double that would be best.
Crowding is the number one cause of pecking issues.

That kind of space would be great, of course, but the general suggestions (we're talking absolute minimums) are 4 sq ft per bird in the coop and 10 sq ft each in the run.

Ny birds do just fine with less. Mine have about 10 sq ft in the coop and 50 sq ft in the run (but they do get to forage for a few hours every day).

But to reiterate: bigger is ALWAYS better for chickens.

And chickens are def individuals. You can't predict behavior based on breed, but you can get a general idea about them from breed info.

Which if you do that math for the 10 birds they propose, those are the numbers I posted. ;)
I'll edit my post that make that more clear.

Oh my gosh! I totally missed the number of chickens they are planning for! Lol!
🤦‍♀️

I was thinking, "Wow - I know aart is all about space and ventilation, but that's kind of overdoing it!"
