I got him from cal ranch, I actually recently contacted the hatchery that made his breed and they said he’s basically just a few generations of selective breeding from a sapphire gem and BJG
That helps some but not as much as I wished. I don't know if the grey in Sapphire Gems comes from the B/B/S or the Lavender genetics. Different websites give different information.
But whether it is B/B/S or Lavender, either means he is based on black. The B/B/S or lavender genes modify what would normally be black to a sort of grey. So that will allow me to tell you what I think you will see with a grey rooster.
With a Rhode Island Red hen, if he is based on B/B/S half of the chicks will be black, half will be grey. If he is based on Lavender all chicks will be black. Many will probably have red leakage. That means while the chick is black, when it feathers out you can get some random red feathers. It may be a few well spread out or you may get some red bunched up.
With a Sapphire Gem hen it gets a little more tricky. If the hen and the rooster are based on B/B/S you will get about 1/4 splash (White with black spots), 1/2 Grey, and 1/4 black. If they are both based on Lavender you should get 100% grey chicks.
With a Gold Laced Wyandotte hen, it is the same as the RIR hen. Either half black and half grey or all black chicks. And again, with red leakage.
So kind of boring for the next generation. But if you go one step further and cross the chicks from the red hens to get a second generation you start to get a bunch or interesting crosses.
