Wing It Ranch

The green is really lovely! I have 5 different shades. The darkest one is also my largest one so it definitely pops!

BCM x CCL are what produced those colors.
I sold loads of BCM x CCL the year before last, never got any of my own to hatch though.

I had an olive egger (different mix) that was male, but he died before I got any F2s!

No had much luck, and I’m focussing on my golden cuckoo marans project, so unlikely I’ll have them any time soon.

So I’ll have to stalk everyone else’s photos of dark green eggs…

Update from WIR. Spent all week clearing land on the new 10 acres. It was pretty neglected. Looking great now. Check out these amazing pig pens that were buried. I have no clue what to do with them. I don't really want pigs..

This area was completely covered in brush and vines. Didn't even know there was a fence! It's 4 strands of barbed wire.

Little Titus is a little ball of energy! Daisy, Maggie, and Titus are doing great together.

I've been bringing Beau in for supervised visits and he's been such a good boy.

And... you know how I let my broody pullet hatch BCM? Well.. one of her chicks is now broody! She's about to be locked up in jail if she doesn't stop. Right now I've been braving her growling and pulling her off the nest.
Karma at its best for saying no more chicks😉😂

Not a bad idea, however... I actually found another chicken coop/pen that would take less of a setup. So I may make that another coop. I've been considering breeding American Bresse and selling hatching eggs. That's a project for the distant future, though!
Chicks take time to grow and start breeding, sounds like a great time!

I second this. You live on a farm. You are into farm math deep now...

The pig pen could easily help you acquire more goats or alpacas, a mini cow, or EMU! The possibilities are endless.

Wing it don't get any more chickens just yet - I'll be the voice of reason.

No one else but you has to deal with the monumental amount of shit the chickens create. Trust me less is better lol <3
Haha thanks for the backup!

I've set myself a cap of 20 and I've reached that. The only way I'll get more is if I start butchering the older ones. And they're still all perfectly healthy and laying nice big eggs.

As for goat math... that's another story. I'm getting a weaned baby girl at the end of April so Titus has a friend. That'll mean 3 does and 1 wether. I think that's a pretty good start to my little herd. I won't breed them anytime soon- not with my work schedule.

After collecting my meager amount of milk from Daisy, I'm ready to make cheese! I went a little overboard on Amazon and got a bunch of cheese making supplies. I'll update sometime this weekend with the result!

Also, good news. Jail worked and my little broody pullet has come to her senses and is back with the flock.

Unlike milk production, egg production is insane. I got a record breaking 16 eggs yesterday. I sold 11 dozen eggs this week! I read an article that egg prices are at an all-time low... my customers are still paying me $6/ doz but I also didn't raise my price when we had the egg shortage last year so no one has complained.
