Red was waiting for someone. She absent-mindedly pulled up some water from the underground bore, listening to the wood creak slowly in the dusk.

The stars were covered by a thin haze of fog.
The floodwaters were starting to subside from the outside of the cave, revealing fertile soil down the side of the mountain.

Red smiled wisely. "That must be where Central and Fort went, to help out with the settling. I barely noticed them leave really, although it has been a little quiet."
Red looked down the bore hole and saw her reflection in the water: she was growing into a young pullet with wattles and a longer face.
