Wildheart sat by the quietly rushing river, finding solace apart from the stressors of WingClan's usual bustle. After Dovestar's invasion, everyone seemed on edge; he, even being the cheerful personality that he was, couldn't help but let it get to him too. Breathing a heavy sigh, he lifted his head and thoughtfully looked off into the shadowed, mystery-shrouded depths of the seemingly endless woods that loomed far beyond view. His eyes were hard and cold, as though holding emotion back.
"Love is just an inescapable trap, Wild," That was what his father always told him. It was what he always believed. "Life is a test. A test for faith, determination, and perseverance. Love? Designed to be an obstacle; to get in our way and make us stumble. It steals valuable time from us, only to just blow up in our faces in the end." Those harsh words painfully resonated in his head. His father was a noble individual at heart; maybe he was right? No, he didn't want to believe that. Maybe, just maybe, his father was wrong. For once in his life, he felt genuine joy, contentment, and, dare he admit it; love.
He smiled softly to himself and silently chuckled. Was he going to take this anywhere, and turn this into a relationship? He still wasn't sure.
Winterfrost took a brief glance behind her before leaving the border and trailing off into the darkness without a single word.
