It's a robotic, 'er-oink, oink, oink, er-oink, oink, oink...' and so on. I never quite understood exactly what that noise means, but it seems to express pleasure, because he makes it when he's happy or eating. I think he likes to use it as an attention-getter, because he knows I'm a sucker and I'll go give him snuggles when he does it...

Those birds sound so cute. I'd like a bird, but they probably cost heaps

Do you analyse their language and stuff like that?

Sunshine was a Craigslist bird, he was $80 with a cage included. Bibi was a bird I adopted from a rescue I work at, so he was free. If you want a bird for a good price, those are great options.

Somewhat

I have determined what most of my chickens are saying when they make certain noises, there is definitely a pattern to it. The parrots are a little more difficult, because they tend to mimic any sounds that interest them.

$80 would be a lot for me, the most I'd probably be able to pay is $20
lol.png
But rescuing birds sounds cool!
Bibi and Sunshine are so similar too, I'm surprised you didn't buy them as a pair!

Chickens are easy
tongue.png
Mine just whine when they're hungry or they need to lay, and they chur when they 'prick their ears up'
tongue.png

Parrots are awesome. We get lorikeets.

If that's the most you'd pay, a Lovebird or a Parakeet would be a good option. I have two Lovebirds. One was $15, the other was $25. I got both as babies and hand-raised them to adulthood.

Bibi is a boy, by the way. He has a girly name because his last owner was uneducated in the way of birds
hide.gif
She thought he was a girl. I kept the name because he already knows it and answers to it. Lories! I love Lories, they're such clowns.

Lovebirds sound cool: we get too many parakeets in the garden already
lol.png

Are birds relatively easy to keep? I'm sure my parents would be fine with it as long as I don't lump the care into their hands.
hide.gif

I raised all my chickens from chicks, it's a cool experience!

gig.gif
That's funny! I suppose birds know more than most people think, huh?
tongue.png

They make ear-splitting screeches though! Especially at night, when they're settling down, and there's a tree with about fifty of them in it... you don't want to be near that tree.

Yeah, Lovebirds are fun. Here's a picture of Jade when she was just a little baby! She's all grown up now and beautifully feathered out.

Yeah... My Quaker will turn around, then hide his face and whimper when he's in trouble, or if he's running off with something he knows he shouldn't have but really likes (My keyboard keys, for example), he'll laugh. Such a toddler
roll.png

Wow! It'd seem worth it to me, though. I would love to see a tree full of Lories. Plus, I'm already very acquainted with ear-splitting screeches... The cockatoos at the rescue I work at will utter bloodcurdling screams when they're mad.

Wow! Isn't Jade beautiful! What do they look like as adults?
Keyboard keys? Sounds like the sixth graders at my school: the computer room actually got shut off at lunchtime because they'd pick them all off

Birds have such lovely personalities! Don't they nibble you too? Awww.

You can't actually see the lories, coz it's usually dark when that happens (or dusk, at least) and it's only a summer occurrence so the trees are covered in leaves. But you can most certainly hear them! I can imagine
tongue.png
We get a lot of yellow cockatoos here. And galahs. Do you know what a galah is? The noise they make!
