Entry #1
Name: Xena
Age: 11 Weeks old
Breed: Rouen
Gender: Female

I am a new duck momma (this is the first time ever owning/raising ducks). I call Xena my miracle duckie. When she was 5-6 weeks old she started having seizures. It progressed so bad where she was having them once an hr. Nothing seemed to help. She wasn't eating. Wouldn't drink. She'd lost around 50% of her body weight within 3 days. She was 2.9lbs when I first took her to the vet and 3 days later she was only 1.6lbs. By this time she had had well over 60 seizures (I stopped keeping track so I don't know how many over that number). The vet suggested that I may seriously think about euthanizing her. I was crushed. I literally was looking up a place to take her and where I could get a toxicology report to find out the "why". While I was trying to come to terms with a hard decision it got late enough where I couldn't do it that day. I told myself I would do it that next afternoon. But Xena, my little warrior, is a fighter. She started drinking that evening. I even got her to eat a little. She went the longest time without a seizure throughout the night than she had since this started. She wasn't giving up so I couldn't give up on her. Fast forward to today and I am so thrilled to say that she has made a complete recovery, has grown like a weed and is THRIVING. That is why she is named Xena, my little warrior duckie. :love

Ok . . I guess it's now or never :gig
Here is my second entry.

Name: Thea
Age: year and a half
Breed: pastel call duck
Gender: female
What makes your duck special to you:
Thea was the very first duckling to hatch from my first call ducks. Out of 13 eggs only three made it to hatch, I was so disappointed! I didn't know how to help them out at the time or much of anything about ducks honestly. . other than I loved them and I wanted more:love
I instantly fell in love with her the first time I saw her peek her tiny yellow head out from under mama duck. I was so excited I scooped her up and took her inside to introduce her to my husband who promptly decided that this new duck was HIS considering I already had two ducks. . that was only fair right? :gig He thought for sure she would be a boy and named her Thor because she "dropped the hammer on that egg and busted out"
We were so worried something would happen to her, we put her in a brooder and kept her with us, played music for her and held her a lot to keep her company.
Over 30 hours later and lots of reading I finally decided to try and assist the last two eggs remaining and all the while little thea talked to them inside their egg and snuggled right up to them when they finally hatched :love

Fast forward a few weeks. .they started feathering out and I saw she was developing Angel wing.. On both sides :th
I ran to byc for help and found out it was closed for the conversion! Oh no!
I hurried and made and an account over at the sister site and desperately looked for duck people.
Some of you are probably reading this right now!
Long story short, you can no longer tell she ever had angel wing thanks to all the help I graciously received from folks I now consider friends. :hugs

Here she is posing like an angel. .

She is so adorable!
Can you give me a shorter answer for why is your duck special to you. I won't be able to fit that all in the powerpoint.

:gigthank you, I can fit a small paragraph, but I would like everyone that wants to vote to be able to see how important these ducks are to their people.
I just like story telling :idunno
Can't help myself. . and once you start telling a story. . where do you stop? :gig
I probably need to find my first entry and give you a shorter message there too.

Here ya go. Post #143
Howard had such a fun playful personality he is dearly missed.
He was the first duck dh got to watch grow up from a duckling and so began his love for ducks!
