After the freak wind and low temps, my chickens were so excited to be outside. They tried their hardest to find something to eat, but there wasn't a worm in sight. Feeling sorry for them during my shopping trip, I got Cranberry flavored Mealworms for them to munch on. LOL... FLAVORED bugs, how funny. It won't be a normal treat, regular price for this novelty was $6. They were on sale and I got one package to test it out. They fell 2nd to cracked Sunflower seeds on the treat list. They also had a fruit blend, and strawberry flavors. They were dead, vacuum sealed. I know live bugs would be WAY cheaper, but I was at Jungle Jims that sells all sorts of food oddities. I'm pretty sure they were for animal consumption since I found them in the pet section... but at that store... you never know.
The last time I had chickens I didn't do anything special for them besides hold them and name them. I lost several to predators and illness. This time as an adult who's paying for everything myself... I have a proper coop and run, and I feed them all sorts of things. I have the same breeds as last time, and I've noticed higher amounts of eggs, better feathering on the birds, and they sure do like being held more than the last ones. Haven't lost one yet.
I feel silly though, for spending $4 on dead FLAVORED bugs since they looked so pathetic trying to find some in frozen together leaves. Spoiled things.
