Winter care for mottled d'uccles

Hi All! I just bought two beautiful black mottled d'uccles pullets without researching them first. (I just fell in love I found a site that says they are not hardy. I live in VA and need to know if I need to do something different in our hen house as far a heat is concerned for the winter. (I have no supplemental heat currently) I will eventually put the new girls in with my laying hens. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

keep them out of mud, ice, and snow or the feathers on their legs and feet will become frozen

I'm in MI and my mille fleur d'uccles do just fine. Their pen is dry except for snow of course, and the coop heat kicks on at 35 degrees and off at 45 degrees. They lay year round as well.
