Winter comming.... worried about comb-care!

My OE bantams have huge combs--
and winter weather gets well below freezing here in NW Michigan... Their coop is WELL insulated, and I plan to have a small heater set to 40f in there--- but they'll probably insist on using the run no matter what.....

I've heard that rubbing vasoline on their combs helps--- any other suggestions?
And how MUCH vasoline???

And is it only nessisary for single combs??
What about their wattles???

I'd hate to have to keep em indoors all winter!

The first winter, we have rubbed a little food grade lanolin on the large combs. We never did it afterwards and haven't had any problems.
