So I suppose it's time for someone about to go through their first winter with ducks to ask a cold weather related question..... might as well be me! I'm curious if anybody feeds their ducks a warm "soup" in the winter? I've seen some websites that talk about it, but I'm curious if anybody on here has actually done this. If so, what all did you put in it?

I can't be much help when it comes to ducks... Sorry- but something I wanted to try for my chickens is oatmeal, warm. I might try it this winter. Have you read about that too? (Not sure if that is what you meant. But I figure it's a possible suggestion). Good luck!

I have heard of oats being used as winter feed. Soaking and serving them warm in the winter would make sense. I've read some stuff where pelleted feed and some other things (I think) are soaked in warm water and fed as a sort of mash or soup. I could see where oatmeal could be a part of it!

You just gave me an idea with the pellets too! My older hens might enjoy that... :)

Maybe you should give oatmeal a try! I have a stack of oats a family member sent to me... I don't have a horse though. Lol. I'll try the oatmeal and fill you in on how the birds like it.

Hello...
I make daily in the winter a warm water soup for my Ducks...I feed it before they get locked up for the night...
I use romain lettuce, tomatoes, peas, cucumber, two alfalfa cubes and a bit of feed...They gobble it up....
In the morning they eat regular feed and I give them a bowl of warm water to drink....The rest of the day I give regular feed and water....

I like this idea! how much of the lettuce, tomatoes peas cucumbers and feed do you use? I only have 2 ducks so i'm thinking that i would only need to make 2 cups worth of the winter soup.....

My first winter with ducks too! I am getting nervous, and feel like I am not prepared. Today is the first rainy day we have had in MONTHS and it is snowing up in the mountains. Yikes. I keep hearing that ducks are a breeze in the winter though.
