Hello all. I'm a new chicken owner and very close to finishing my first build. The build is based off of various pictures I've seen online. The coop is 8x4ft with a run that's 8x12ft. I've read how important proper ventilation is. With winter approaching here in Georgia I'd like to create adequate ventilation without freezing the birds. I've also read that chickens are a lot more cold tolerant than new owners think. In this case it would be two Buff Orpingtons, a Plymouth Rock, a Golden Lace Wyandotte, and a Blackstar.

I've attached pics of my current build. The drawn red box is where I plan to add another window. The blue arrow point out some ventilation that may not be visible. Could really use your suggestions on where to place additional ventilation.

Thanks everyone

The spot I'd add ventilation is where the blue arrows are, that black triangular panel - nice and high and the roof will provide most of the weather protection. You should be able to replace the entire panel with wire mesh (maybe leave 1' on each end if you're afraid of winds blowing rain in, depending on your wind directions).

The photo above that, with the circular vents... you could possibly turn that entire rectangle into a vent, again, depending on how winds blow in your area.

I would agree! You could also add a piece of plywood with some hinges to have the option to close it as well. I did that with mine and made it so I can actually prop it up at different levels for different amounts of air flow. Here is my coop, I used some small chain and some eye hooks so I can either open the windows all the way for max air flow or close them completely.

Added a window and cut the triangle as suggested. Put them on hinges so that I can open and close as needed. Think this will be enough ventilation now?

Looks good enough for winter... might want the entire front under the run roof to pop off come summer

We have 2 large windows (these get only partially covered in winter to prevent a breeze blowing through) and ventilation up under the eaves (?) On both sides.
