wire baskets for egg collecting......

My shirt and pockets were working really well until I started getting 8-10 eggs at a time. Then I broke one in my coat pocket.

I spent the $6 on the wire egg basket! LOL

I've always used the front of my shirt or sweatshirt to hold eggs as I gather them, but sometimes I need both hands to do things so I get interrupted in egg gathering tasks. (I'm also old, forgetful and easily distracted.)

So, yesterday, I picked up a $2.50 plastic basket from the first two aisles in Target. You know, where they have the dollar and two dollar items. It's shaped more oval than round. White plastic with round holes all over the sides, so I think it's going to be perfect for a couple dozen eggs at once. And, if one breaks inside the basket, I can do as does A.T. Hagan, simply rinse it out.

I have a basket hanging in the barn next to the chicken pen. Its one of the one that my Grandfather had plastic coated. I was seven or eight when I went with him to get them coated. It holds five or six dozen, way to big for my present flocks output. Just a reminder of the days when I would lug it through the chicken house and fill it.

I have 29 Hens i Collectings is easier now that Ive traind my birds to put them in cartons saves alot of time
