I had a mottled lavender pullet killed today at about 10 am, while it was raining, I was having a garage sale there were about 7 people outside and the dog was out! What kind of bold animal would do that? I had them shut in the pen so they wouldn't get run over by all the cars coming in. Whatever it was killed it right outside the pop door on the coop, carried it to the fence and tried to pull it through the wire. So if it wasn't a mink I'm thinking a coon. I heard some hens having a fit annd assumed the one that just had chicks lost one in the pool. But no, gray feathers everywhere. And a chicken with its neck all tore up and its head pulled through the fence. Of course it was the one my daughter carried around all the time. I also have a call duck that can no longer walk and I'm not sure why.

Good Fish Fry Friday All.... Nothing like fresh fish Doc...glad you are enjoying them today!

Big day for me at the eye Doc....said no scar tissue and one more visit Aug 5th before next surgery. Thanks be to the Creator!

H&R prolly one with babies to feed....mothers have a way of finding food for the babies. Brazen is fitting for sure.

Glad to hear the sop found a useful home. i just love it when a plan comes together.

The young ones were timid to mix with the big flock, so the big girls went into their pen and are enjoying their feed and mixing up well, on their terms....gotta love those older girls.

The waterers we have been talking about are the bucket waterer from Premier One...they are 4.75 gal for $18 plus shipping. I now have 4 of them and think they are great. Like I told TO, I questioned the handle on them at first, no need to worry...they perform great with thousands of 60 yard carries for me, and never a problem at all.

Thanks for sharing all the great pics! Gotta love that Gilson, eh!

Good evening! I am pretty warm here...gonna get worse I hear! UGH! At least our blood is a little thinner now, maybe it wont be so bad as the last heat wave?
CHeck out the new mama duck! She is my new record holder. I counted 19 babies!!! (the old record was 17) Here she is:

I wonder how many she will raise? If I can get her to go in I want to put her in the new thing I set up last night...or maybe I can get her to go into a stall. She hatched the babies in the barn so that might be a little easier to do...

Here is a pic of the really weird duck that hatched here along with it's siblings. I think he looks really cool.

I am anxious to see what he will look like grown up!
Today I had to cook...which turned out well even though the shopper didnt get any corn for my "Mexicorn" dish! I had to go to the Sentry in town and buy some.
Well dd19 wantsa to watch a movie so I guess I will watch with her...goodnight! Terri O

Evening all!

Just thought I'd get caught up here since I'm not sure if I'll "see" you tomorrow since we have a lot to do tomorrow!

TO-cute babies!!

Kee-I'll be at the Cream City workshop with my dh! Can't wait to finally me you in person!

Bigz-congrats on getting your eye surgery ok! Hope all goes well!

bl4-those are adorable ducklings!

WCc-congrats on the new lawn mower!

Had a great day-nice and cloudy, not too hot. I went to Wal Mart for do a little shopping , then up to Middleton to Costco for some bulk stuff I needed. When I got home, I was planning to go grab a bite of lunch and run to the PO to check out po box. Dh was home from his appointments so he tagged along to get lunch with me with a comment about seeing a rummage sale on the way. Well that turned into an afternoon of garage sale-ling! The Tobacco Festival is going on in Edgerton and part of that is garage sale central! Loads of rummage, yard, and garage sales were to be seen. At the first one, I got a very very cool vintage bread and cake box. It is awesome and so pretty! At the second one, I got some old canning jars with glass lids-great to store dried beans and peas in. Then the third one I found an old childrens book that I remembered reading as a kid. It was one of my favorites and I don't think I have my copy any more so for .25 I could not go wrong. Then we went to a sale that was in a huge absolutely gorgeous back yard complete with an Angel Garden. The yard was absolutely stunning! I found an old butcher block/cutting board there that is an inch thick-set me back big bucks-25 cents! I found some cedar wood eggs for 50 cents at another sale. I figured I could seal them and use them for dummy eggs in the nest boxes to help detur curious beaks from pecking at eggs! I also found a very cool stapler that has a rooster on it and a matching tape dispenser for 3 bucks!
All in all it was great to spend some time with my hubby and enjoy small town life!

We were planning on going to see Harry Potter but my theater was sold out for that show so I made reservations for tomorrow night to see it! I can hardly wait!

My garden in starting to kick with some veggies!!! I've got peas!! Lovely green peas!! I love fresh sweet peas straight from the pod! Yummmm. I think they are a few more days away yet from full harvest. I also have some green peppers and I have a melon growing. Yeah!!!

That was it for today, I feel like I've been running ever since I got up! Tomorrow is more of the same only here at the house. Mow the lawn, water the garden, clean the house, laundry, set up a place for the rabbits in the basement so they can go in a cooler place for the heat wave. I think even with frozen water bottles they will have a tough go of it.
We are going to process Cornie tomorrow before we got to the dump. Since it's going to be very hot the next 3 or days, I don't think he'll make it through-he is just to heavy. So we will process him before we loose him.

Hello again!

Woo! Really dodged a bullet today. A few days ago, I noticed that Fred, my RIR hen, wasn't looking so hot. I took her inside and after finding a solid mass in her throat, I peeked in her mouth and saw a white plaque on her bottom jaw. Eeek! I was super worried because in December, my Buttercup roo, King, died from a similar cause- white fungal plaques in his mouth. The worst part was that before I knew he was sick, I had been keeping Fred with him!

I was scared that whatever had killed King was back and had gotten a hold of Fred. Plus, since Fred had been out and about with the whole flock, I was absolutely terrified that I was looking at some sort of wide-scale breakout!

After taking her into the vet to assess my options, however, he said that she only had some sort of abscess and NOT anything contagious! I was so relieved I almost cried. For a while last night, I was afraid that I might be looking at some massive flock fatalities. So right now Fred is still in the house being treated for her abscess. I'm reluctant to try to lance it, simply because it's in her throat between her wattles and I don't want to end up killing her in the process of trying to 'help'.

Seems like Tiffany, my cat, will simply have to put up with the antics of 'cat-killer Fred' a little longer.

(As a side note, no, the chicken won't actually kill the cat. It's a nickname because Fred will chase and peck at any cat she comes across.)

Wow! Everyone must be too busy to come post! Has anyone heard from Jim? I know he went to the dentist a few days ago, not like him to not (at least) check in.

I went rummaging again and got a 21qt. pressure canner for $20.... it's probably as old as I am, but from what I've seen and heard of the new ones, that's a good thing! It's in good shape and the seal will probably be fine for this season. I also got a bunch of scatter rugs for $2- $3 ea.... brand new and in bags! They all have Rosters on them!(different styles) hehehehe I looked up the brand and they run $35 ea! So the indoor/outdoor carpet in my kitchen will be safe! (ugh... that stuff HAS to go!

with a side of creamy cucumbers from the garden. BBP sorry to hear about your DD's fav hen! That is dang bold for an animal to do that with people around. Had nearly the same thing happen with a fox one time. Must of had babies to feed. kee hope your workshop goes well! Sorry to hear about your ex. I have 2, one I get along great with she gets eggs and all the garden stuff she wants, the other won't ever get anything even if it had past through my colon. Ended up with 6 1/2 cups of berries or a pie and a half as I like to think of it.

Have almost all the outside stuff done in prep for this next heatwave. Turned on the dehumidifier this morning think the air will be on shortly. Think this will be a good week to start ripping the interior walls out to replace the insulation and drywall.

Both bedrooms have plywood on two of the four walls. Hmm what to do with plywood. Thinkin coop extention.

Fric and Frac spent the night in the big kids room. They were in there last night so I just left them there. Fric was roosted with Pea and Btwo on their special roost bars and Frac was up with the others. Now I can clean out their appartment and turn it back into a feed, bedding storage area.

Better get movin! Hope you all have a cool place to hide for a week!
