Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Drizzly good morning all! Was up at 3:30 this morning, DH had to run into chicago to pick up some kids who are coming to hang out with DD15... like I need more teenagers. The one girl is the daughter of one of his clients, who was here last night w/a co-worker, they are in Madison from MA for some training. Was a bit uncomfortable as the one who's daughter is staying with us is "chasing" my DH. Always trying to get him to stay at her house instead of hotel, and whenever he mentions my name she ends the conversation, etc. I've had to talk to her several times on the phone when DH was in hospital there and she's made it more than clear she wants nothing to do with me! I tired to explain to DH that it would be uncomfortable, but what does he care? LOL...all last evening all she could do was make google eyes at DH and spent the better part of the evening trying to ignore me!

LUcky me she and co-worker will be back today and then we get her alone all day tomorrow. She's not real happy w/DH right now as he will be working from home now and only spending a day or two at her credit union every 3 or 4 months, as he has several he'll need to visit during his week long trips. So you can see I'm having a most delightful weekend

It's Janesville's city wide rummage sale this weekend, thing even thought it's drizzling a bit I may hope in the shower and see what's out there this morning as DH won't be back from Chicago until about 10:30 or so...

NIce to see you back Raim, sorry you're little one has been ill. Had to chuckle over the odor you can't find.. think we've all had one of those at one time or another!

MLH you and your DH have just become my heroes!!

I wanted to be a vet until I spend one day as a teenager w/our vet one weekend when he was on call. The first call that came in convinced me I'd never make it, and that was just a cat that couldn't pee and he had to cath for a urine sample! Yep, first degree wimp here!! I had to give DD's wolf a shot once, because she couldn't do it and while he didn't feel a thing I nearly passed out! I can't even watch someone get a shot on tv without going woozy, try giving a 175 lb wolf a shot and trying not to look, was certain I'd end up with the rabies shot and not him!!

Dornes, I'm jealous, I keep trying to find some more dog kennels on CL and seldom ever see any and if I find one the people think they are sitting on gold and want way to much! My neighbor has some she's given me, but I've yet to remove it from her property and it's in pieces so I'm not sure how much I got, but I'm sure it's not enough. She let us take down part of her wooden fence behind the house so we could see her garden better and said she has a few more pieces lying around if I want them (she is awesome!) for the run, but they are only 5' tall, but would work for a back wall... I want to be able to SEE the girls afterall. And conveniently there is a wooden fence in the treeline between our homes to buffer the sound for her, so using the shed as a coop seems to be working out well, now if I could just find time to rennovate it!

Speaking of which... since I'm using the side of the garage as fence... how the heck do I enclose the top? Not sure DH wants me nailing anything into the side of it, which is the ONLY way I can think to secure a top... any suggestions?I really don't want to have to fence that area....

DrH, glad you got to go fishing and had a nice time. I used to love to go fishing, but DH isn't into fishing and doesn't eat much in the way of fish and wouldn't let me kill anything, so... no fishing for this kid.

LOL Carol, great picture and congrats on your lawn mower.

BL4 the ducklings are adorable! Wish I could get some, but they are just too messy for DH and I'm lucky he agreed to chickens!

We use a black mesh tarp(found at Menards)that covers our run and butts up to the side of the coop- haven't had any of the birds try and get out.

Waiting for the rain to stop - we have chickens and turkeys to wash and get ready for fair this week. We'll be working on other projects for a while this am. Dogs need to be groomed and ready for tomorrow's dog judging.

Have a great one!

My dogs are enthralled by the pullet here at the house. the chickens are doing great at the barn, but one of my new chicks hatched disappeared... so now I am down to 4.
IF I lose another one, I am bringing them to the house and raising them here.

I gave a lesson to new client on DH's horse who is staying at their house for the time being, he is 16 and his DM said why not hop on Zeus the arab I sold them and go for a short trail ride.
He did great for about an 1/8 or so of a mile, then had a complete meltdown, not fun... I got off and walked him back aways, then got back on him and MADE him walk and go back to the barn...
It seems to me he either got obsessed over their new mare they just got, or he felt he should RUN back.. and because I didn't let him, he just started to lose it.. go backwards and just NOT listen...
I could go on. But won't bore you with all the details. but I think I will bring my mare over and have the new client get on him and we pony him.. to teach him to listen again.

Have a great day and stay cooL!

He's IS cute. He reminds me of my ferret "Sebastian" I had years ago. Too bad us chicken people can't get along with those.

Well it's starting to warm up and I hope we all stay cool and hydrated during the heat to come. BigZ good news for you, keep doing what your doing and prayers your way for the next step.
TO that is one busy momma thanks for the pic. BBP sorry for your loss and glad to see you caught the culprit.
Dkvart, wow sounds like a real beotch, maybe you can poison her while she's at your place

Breac happy Fred will be ok, sorry you had to worry about a possible flock disaster.

DrHaHa, sounds like those berries won't go to waste. Plans to work inside for us too. Sanding down old cabinets for paint etc.
Got the weeds under control for now and DH cut the lawn, getting as much done outside like everyone else before the heat. DH doesn't want to turn on the AC cause maybe it won't be that bad

We'll see who wins that one when it's to hot for sleeping and a happy wife

Hi all!
Stopped in real quick to catch up!
Spent the early part of the morning processing Cornie. It went really well and fast and it was definately time. He was starting to "go down" on his legs and motility was becomming a problem for him. I thought I'd be sad or something, because he was kind of a special one for me to raise, but I was not sad at all. It was actually a relief in some ways to be able to process him because that was what he was bred for. He had a great life for a Broiler and he got a chance to live a nice chicken life that many never get to do. He also did not have to suffer a heart attack or die from the heat.

After that, dh and I went to the dump, and then perused more garage sales. I found an old bath canner perfect for part of the chicken processing process for $4 and I also found some more canning jars for $1.25. We went to the Tobacco Festival just so we could say we've been and I got a loaf of Cinnamon Bread from a group of Amish and I also got some wooden hand carved spoons since I needed to replace some of my old plastic ones. They were way cheaper then getting spoons at a store plus they are hand made with cool twists and comfortable handles.

Then we got home and I set up a row of rabbit cages in the basement and moved the bun-buns down into cooler depths. They seamed very relieved but I got nailed by the Champainge as I was taking her out of the carrier. I have many band-aides on my right hand and one on my left. I must remember to trim toe nails!

Well, I'm trying to get up the energy to mow the lawn, but I just don't care about how long it is in this heat. Maybe if I ignore the fact the in needs to be cut, it will wilt in the heat and looked mowed.....

OH!!!! before I completely forget! The most important part of why I checked in!!!! WE HAVE A BABY CHICK!!!!!!

Violet the Old Cornish is the proud Mama! I was check on the Old Broads to see if they needed anything and both Emma and Lavinia were off the nests but Violet was still setting. I heard little loud cheeps and made Vi stand up a little to see. The little peepster was soaking wet so she/he (with my luck a he) had just hatched! I will check on then again later and mash up some food for them. Hopefully we will get one more to hatch! It was the bantam egg that hatched naturally!! Whoo Hoooo!!!! The first "natural" birth at our little farmette!!!!

Home from a dog show today. Charlie earned 35 points towards his UKC championship with 1 competition win (need 100 pts with 3 competition wins), so 1/3 the way there. Headed back tomorrow for a double header, hope that goes well. He's getting so pretty with a big plush coat and showing so well.

Got my antigen, some plastic bandettes, some VetRX, antigen, light box, and blood sampling tool for pullorum testing, so I should be set. Got the 3-ply forms on order, but can always print off the internet versions in a pinch (just would half to triplicate them which would be a hassle).

My broody is most unhappy with me for shutting her in a box. She broke several of the banty eggs I put with her and 1 of the LF. We'll see if she manages to hatch anything. She is sitting on the remaining eggs, but jumps up and paces whenever I check on her. Sigh. Was hoping she'd be a good, devoted broody, but time will tell.

Saving up eggs to run the incubator one last time this season. Got 18 Ameraucana x Marans eggs to make some cute B/B/S +/- Cuckoo EEs, 6 Marans (Silve Blue hen x Cuckoo Splash cockerel), and some lavender bantam eggs to put in as soon as I buy a ceramic bulb for it and get that temp-stabilized. NOT going to have another blown bulb tripping a breaker in the MIDDLE of hatching, rassa fricka.

Inlaws are here visiting (DH's brother and his 4 sons ranging from 4 years to 19 years). I'm hiding.

They compete for conversation by jacking up the decibels. Ouch, me ears. Think I'll skip the in depth discussion on how to rate and hone a bb gun.

Got to bathe and groom up Bubbs tonight. Want to put her in the ring tomorrow to up the points for best of winners. It was all males showing today, no females.

Oops, Tyler's awake, gotta run.

Welcome Aves! Good to see you here!! In answer to your question, yes heat and humidity can be a cause in egg reduction. Strange weather and baromectric (sp) can cause a reducation in egg production as well. Stress is another factor in poor egg production and when the birds molt they usually will stop production until they are through their molt.
Hope this helps you out! Don't worry, your girls will get back to normal before long. Probably right before the molt!!
