Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good slightly cooler morning! At least it is only 79 right now.

The weather folks arent saying much....the lake was GREAT last night! It was really nice to float on my back and watch those clouds. There was grey, orange and white thunderheads all rolling around up there. Too bad a camera pic doesnt do them justice! We stayed in the water until there was pretty much lightening and then got out. It was super dark to the Southwest but it just kept going East and never dropped a bit of rain here! We thought by the looks of it we were going to get drenched at the beach...maybe Fort got it...as usual*sigh*

Carol was a member of the achy, breaky tooth club last night...her tooth flared up again so we didnt do surgery. I hope you are feeling better today Carol! (and Jim for that matter too!) Toothaches are NOT nice! The funny thing about the hen with bumble foot that we were going to work on is that when I caught her to pen her up the top bumble opened up and I was able to get the kernel out really easily! It must have been ready--the bad part is that she has one on the bottom pf her foot too and so does my big cochin...maybe Wednesday Carol?

I got the air cond. in all by myself! Good old utube! I watched a couple videos and put it right in. I was glad I watched...there were a few things that I hadnt thought about like closing the heat vents so the cold air doesnt all go to the basement! Never would have thought of that! So now it is 78 in here and 86 outside. At least the humidity is lower in here...that is what kills me! I have the bathroom and the back room blocked off because this is just a small AC unit...at least it is something....and my house is NOT insulated like yours FM! It stays kind of cool as long as the night temps drop--then we run the house fan. That is not working right now with these temps though!

OK--I guess enough procrastination for me...gotta do those birds and go to work. Stay cool! (

I had someone come into my driveway in the middle of the night and steal things from my car. Last Oct it was my purse, this time my husband's wallet. We had gone to the beach that evening and he shoved it in the console and forgot to bring it in. I have never locked my car or house. I have even gone to the grocery store and left my keys in the car. This is a town of 2500 people and probably a few hundred are in the retirement homes. I have three options: lock everything up tight, get surveillance cameras or get a dog to guard the property. Now, I don't like the extra effort I have to put into locking everything and I live in this area so I can avoid the city and all the crap that comes with living there. I think I may install inground fence around a couple of acres and get a dog. I want an old fashioned german shepherd. I want a dog that will keep strangers out of my yard at night as well as predators. My only issue is I want a male and I already have a 6 yr old male golden retriever that is not neutered. I don't want fighting. Maybe cameras are the way to go. I swear if I find anyone digging through my car the are getting a bullet. I am sick of this crap.

Afternoon All...had to shut down yesterday to cause of the severe storms. We ended up with two different down pours. Much neede in the gardens. I know the spuds loved it, as well as everything else.

BBP, sorry to hear about the thieves. We keep everything outside locked at night, and then rely on the castle doctrine and my two friends Smith & Wesson to handle the security inside. Outside thefts are at an all time high...as you know.

Way to go with the converter fm....cheaper than a generator for sure.

Hope your tooth feels better today Jim.

Sorry to hear about the losses. Gonna be tough going for the next 48 hours.... Be Safe

Afternoon All!

I have a ton to report but y'all have to wait.

I wanted to catch up on what I've missed and now dh wants to go grab a bite to eat! I also have a few more chores to do......so I'll just chat later!

Stay cool!

for you BBP. IMO, there are few deterrents better than a full grown German Shepherd. Our boy is very protective, charges the door at a knock or ring. I watch a lot of wide-eyed people take a step or three back

Once he checks visitors over he is fine, but I do not worry an iota about unsavory characters. My uncle used to walk in bad neighborhoods in Chicago with his 2 GSD's; nobody bothered him, ever. And there are so many of them in shelters and rescues, any age, color, and temperament you want. We had 2 males together for a while and they adored each other, so gender doesn't matter as much as personality. In a small town, word should get around quick that you've got a dog that means business or a least looks like he does.

Everyone who does not know any better thinks Trixie is a Pit Bull....... and I do not correct them either!

Did a little tour of the damage in FM's neighborhood last night. There are a TON of trees down around Spencer Lake! A lot of the corn fields were 'bent' by the wind. They were not completely flattened, but you could see the stalks were all leaning in one direction.......

Biggest decision today is to figure out what beach to go to..........

Whew! Housebound today and hating it! Thought we might get a bit of rain last night but this nice big cloud just fanned out and slid right past us. We could see the rain coming down and the lightening was quite a show, but not a drop for us

BBP Taffy is adorable!

Goth glad you unloaded some of those chicks.

LOL Jim, I bow to no child! Last night they came up stairs about 9:00 and the one said "Why haven't you offered us any food? I feel like I"m going to pass out?" MInd you hubby and I sat down to eat at 5:00 and none of them were interested. Both visitors won't eat 99% of anything and eat at different times. Then this child tells us there's nothing here she can eat. So I open the fridge and start listing things... will you eat grilled cheese? yes. will you eat waffles? yes. will you eat... and so it went... I closed the cupboards and said well knock yourself out. Then she said, "Do you not want us here? Especially you..." looking at me? That was it! I told her that I would never present a menu to someone kind enough to have me at their house and that this is NOT a restrauant and I DO NOT cook more than one meal at a time. Then I had to bite my tongue and walk away before I started talking about their rude behavior and how when someone asks them something the polite thing to do is respond. Later DH went downstairs and set them straight. Mind you it's not like they have dietary restrictions, they are just spoiled rotten and that simply does not fly here. Today he told them he would take them and drop them off at the pool, they wanted options. One says why dont' you take us to Lake Geneva and let us swim there. He said, you want options? You can go to the local pool or you can go out and pull weeds, clean up branches and help with stuff arond here. How's that for options? They are now on thier way to the pool.

If you like ice cream try putting plain ice cream on the swelling where that tooth was. When I had root canal years ago my dentist told me to do that as soon as I left his office and continue it over the next couple of days to help w/the swelling. Maybe it'll help some.

Dornes sorry to hear about your hubby. Hope he's still taking it easy the next couple of days, once you dehydrate like that the heat is a little tougher to take.

Celtic, once the weather cools I'll dig up some of those little hosta starts for you... it was you who wanted them right? Maybe we can find a time in the next week or two to meet up.

Susie I'm gonna have to look for the deer fly strip. They don't bother me much, except last week when I was hacking down the undergrowth along the tree line one decided to bite me in an ohhhhh so delicate spot. I thought a thorn had pierced my shirt, when I looked down there it hung, like a tassle... need I say more??

TO wtg w/putting in the AC, not sure I would have tackled that with or without Utube.

BBP sorry you got robbed. It's a shame that now even in small towns you have to worry about that cr*p.

Glory be, I've run out of posts to read

Take care and stay cool everyone!

I bought a 50 lb bag of brewers yeast today. I've come to the conclusion that they may have a niacin deficiency. I just feed all my birds a mix of cracked corn, oats, sometimes wheat and flock raiser or chick started. Everyone free ranges all day, but I think the ducks need a supplement. In the winter I do better about choosing what feeds to give them, but when they're foraging all day they get whatever I feel like buying. I have chicks this time of year so they get unmedicated chick starter in their mix.
Taffy is my favorite duck and she is cute. But by call duck standards she's got an ugly head. She looks pretty racy.
I probably will get a german shepherd. I've been wanting an old fashioned one for a long time - big size (120+ lbs) and straight backs. I adored the king shepherd we had growing up. I guess the recent crimes here are just a motivator to save up the $1800 its going to cost to get one. Shelter dogs aren't an option. I want a puppy to raise around my birds and cats and I don't want a sloped back ARC version of the breed.

Hey all! That is so sad about you being robbed BBP! I sure hope stuff like that doesnt come my way...do you live in town or on the outskirts? We are very lax about security around here...but we DO have 6 dogs! I believe that no matter how big the dog is, strangers are always wary of them. My little terrier is a bigger force to recon with than most big dogs! If I were you I would check out the shelters though...they quite often have puppies. I know that big dog puppies are harder to place too. At Shelter From the Storm out of Madison (where I volunteer) we have scads of big dog pups this time of year. You can find them on petfinder. Also a very good deal to get a dog (or cat) with all it's vet work done for a reasonable price. [end of advertisement]

I just got back from taking a drive to find that beagle you all found so sweet at the bash.

This is how I feel inside and out!!! I didnt find her and when I got home, there she was under the pump laying in the mud! No idea why she couldnt come in when I called her!

So now I am trying to cool down again....Cheryl (H&R) called while I was in the car. Her Wellie girl is laying! Yeah--that means mine will follow shortly! THey are heading to a t-ball game! UGH! Sure glad our fair wasnt this week!
In a half hour or so I have to head to Deerfield to meet a prospective client. Understandable that she wants to meet me before I stay at her house for a weekend! THis is for a dog sitting job...3 big huskies I guess. Sure hope they arent going to want to sleep in bed with me!

Have a good evening everyone! Drink lots of water! Terri O
