Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Terri O, yes Merton is near Oconomowoc and Hartland. Say, do you mean Fort Atkinson? I have close friends in Ft. that run Cafe Carpe...Bill and Kitty..know them? Great place for food and music if you haven't tried it yet.

My kids showed their chickens today. They each only brought 1, my daughter showed the Iowa Blue rooster and my son a black orpington. They both got champion ribbons, but my 5 yr old daughter is just so upset that she didn't get Grand Champion. She really thought that trophy was hers. There were a few poopy butts and frozen combs. I think some people just bring too many and don't get them clean in time. I won't bring a chicken or duck unless I think it's worthy of earning Grand Champion. Some birds had totally wrong combs. Oh well, its a learning experience I guess.

I never realized it, but yup they all match the furniture! Murphy is a gray mini schnauzer and Griddle our other cat is gray and white, the sofa and love seat are gray... put I personally have always been partial to black and white critters. But I have to admit to wanting to get a little "wild" with chicken colors

Jim, yep, that's the chair hubby picked out. Not what I had envisioned either (Thank Heavens!) But it is one comfy chair for sure, which I'm sure is why the darn cat has claimed it for herself!

Paradise, thanks for sharing the meet and greet info. Guess I might just have to go down and visit my kids, who live about 1/2 hour from there. Would be nice to get back that way, I grew up about 5 miles from where the Speedway is.

Raim, will like your FB page for sure, hope it generates some biz for you, but most of my friends are cheapskates LOL hope your arm feels better soon!

I HAVE A.A.A.D.D!! Thanks Cind! Now I have something to blame it on when DH asks what I've done all day! LOL Sorry your first night was rough with Ruddy. Benny's first night here he was hyper as blazes and he was a bit whiney at bedtime.... missed his owners. Also whinned if anyone got up and left the bedroom to use the bathroom, but was fine once we returned.

Goth congrats on the new kitty! I'm sure he's going to be real surprised no matter how you present it to him!

Baby, sorry about the planes, that's what it was like everyday where we lived in Florida. Military planes and choppers all the freaking time flying right over our place at times only a couple of hundred feet above our house (because military don't have to follow FAA flight requirements...

) We're heading up there on Sunday, if DH has the energy... he flew out to Boston yesterday and flies back in tomorrow, not sure that despite his desire to go he'll have the energy!

Gaelio sorry about your roo, hope he recovers well.

TO your daughter is beautiful and the horse is lovely too. Thanks for sharing the pics!

BBP congrats to the kiddies on their wins! You're so right it's a learning experience. Just sad that sometimes things seem so "slanted", but even in that there's a lesson I suppose.

NIce of the rain to finally let up... hello humidity and heat... feel like I'm back in Florida!

Well, Benny is settling in nicely. Yesterday I spent a good two hours playing fetch and catch me if you can (can't vouch for him, but I was EXHAUSTED). Gave him a couple of doses of anti anxiety herbal stuff to help him along a bit as he was very anxious the night before, trying to figure out where he belonged, missing his former owners, etc. Helped a lot and there was no whinning at bedtime like the previous night. He was great today! He was adorable last night, trying to catch lighening bugs, all the while sporting a most puzzled look!

Took him out and played with him a bit this morning to get some of the puppy energy out and then he and Murphy just followed each other around the yard. At one point Murphy even initiated play and they chased each other like bats outta he**! I was amazed, Murphy has only ever played with one other dog in his life, our Stanley Mutt Mutt. He must trust this guy, which is exactly what we hoped for him, a good buddy. Benny did however terrorize Tootsie last night, but didnt hurt her, just chased her until I caught him. Needs some work there and a bit on manners and walking at heel, but over all doing exceptionally well. He does suffer from seperation anxiety (which our other boy suffered from too, until we adopted Murphy), so for now when we leave we crate him. In a few weeks we'll start using some of the anti anxiety herbal stuff and quit crating him and see if that works. Want to give him time to feel comfortable here before we test that out. He only goes after plastic (just like Stanley) so the only thing he could really hurt would be the trash can.

Taking the kids and dropping them off at the fair this evening, let them oogle boys or whatever they do!

And I'll enjoy some piece and quiet. Moved over the dog kennel panels my neighbor gave me today and have them behind the shed. Looks like I'll have about 240 sq ft of run (since I can use the side of the shed and garage to contain them) should I ever get anything done on that front. I'm sorely disappointed that I can't get started on that yet

No word on the jobs yet... now waiting to hear from 3... sheesh. I have one but it doesn't start until mid August and only goes to mid October and only pt time ...better than nothing though. I do have an appt with an employment agency Monday at 1:00 so... maybe something there.

Enjoy the rest of the day all.

Been so busy, still working on that workshop! It's TOMORROW! *whew*

Can't wait to meet you, MLH, and your hubby! See you tomorrow!

Was going to ask--how do you guys help dry out runs after rainstorms? I had just tilled my run, and the rainstorm made it horrible. It smells horrible, it looks horrible...and it won't dry out! I sink to almost my ankles when I walk in--even today when it's been a day and a half since the last rain. Not Cool.

Happy Fish Fry Friday All.... the outside cooker is set up and ready for fish and frys.....you just gotta love fish and frys!

Picked another pail of broccoli today and the zukes are non stop now.... the flock loves them, so prolly leave a few get bigger. plenty of Zukes for bread too!

Good to hear all the good news from everyone. I can't wait til I can see good enough to really enjoy reading again. I love to read.

It's just dang fun being alive and enjoying what you love to do!

Make it a great weekend, eh!

I think I need to learn to relax on my days off.......

The whole family packed up this AM and headed for Door County for some cherry picking! Along the way I caught up with the Peach truck in GB for 2 cases of Georgia Peaches!!!
droolin.gif
I think we are set with fruit for the year, now I need to decide if I want to make Rum cherries or Brandy cherries........
cool.png
After picking cherries we stopped at Bay Shore Park (same park I stopped at with FM) for some picnic lunch and cooling off in the Bay. Ran out for Chineese food for dinner tonight on account of the youngest DD turning 12 today. Picked up Dilly Bars instead of cake for after dinner. At least after all this running around we made it home before dark!

I'll be taking a camera to work tomorrow; I hope I can get some good shots of the planes from the roof!

That silly duck is back to sitting on eggs! I was hoping they were all done with the egg laying, but there are two eggs out there right now......

Not much else going on here! Going to be very busy over the next few days pitting cherries and then dealing with the peaches!

speaking of zucchini....a friend just gave me a recipe for zucchini cake that is like apple cake. You use the monster zukes that are normally just for bread, core them and slice like an apple. Cook until soft with 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 1 cup sugar, 1 T cinnamon, then cool and drain. Make a crust of 4 c flour, 3 sticks butter melted, 1 cup sugar, 1 tsp salt, 3/4 brown sugar..mix and reserve half of this for top. Spread half in 9 x 13 pan and bake 10 minutes @ 350. Pour zucchini over crusty baked bottom and bake 30 min. Sprinkle 1/2 mixture on top (add more brown sugar & cinnamon) and bake 5 more minutes. I'm told that everyone will think it's apples. Good way to use the big zukes.
