Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning all,

Well, it happened again. Had a huge post with tons of replies. Then POOF !!!! So I'll keep it short and sweet, or not so sweet. Bad news again here. Something got one of my guinea hens the other day. She was sitting on eggs in some tall weeds. Not to far away from one of my Great Pyrenees that is tied out all night. Guess those critters aren't so dumb. There were tons of feathers like something grabbed ahold of it and just pulled. They were all in a big clump. Bet she put up a good fight sticking to those eggs.
There were 12 salvagable eggs that I candled and they had just started to develop. I put them in a nest box in Camper Coop #2 where the guineas sleep most of the time. (sometimes they sleep over in coop #3)
I feel real guilty not putting them in the bator. I haven't cleaned it out yet and I wasn't going to hatch any more. I may cave in yet today.

I'm hoping one of the guinea hens will see the eggs and start setting

I'm down to 6 guineas out of the 11 or so I started with. I thought they were suppose to be the lookout watch poultry !!!

Good thing I have tons in the brooders and eight week old keets. Now just where to put them to keep them safe !!!! Now I need watch chickens to watch the lookout watch Guineas !!!

Well, lots to do today, gotta go out of town tonight to a baptism in the morning !!

Jim, watch out for snakes, they like that tall grass hanging out next to the house !!!! Chuck found one the other day right under the bedroom window. Sure am glad the holes the cat made in the screen are only tiny ones !!!

Catch up later

Good morning! Felt good to sleep in for a bit today...must be gettin' old--oh wait--the "old guys" are the ones that are getting up early!

I wish our air here didnt have the "gonna get real hot" feeling. When I went out with the dogs it was already over 80 and definitely on the way up. I want to put the new gazebo together today--got a great deal on it at F&F. I might have told you already that I want to make a low deck to set it on and bolt it down so it doesnt blow away (like the last 3!)
DS22 just walked in! Yeah--I needed someone tall to help with the set up!

Hey Jim...it must be nice to have to CREATE projects to have something to do
roll.png
If you ever have a spare week...c'mon down!
BigZ I LOVE your life philosophy! Sure wish I had some fish to fry...guess I better go and make some use out of that fishing license hey? Hmmm--maybe I will do that for tomorrow.
Cind--what you need to do is flip that dog on his back and teach him that you are the leader of the pack and not him! Please read up and do this or you may end up with a dangerous dog (at least to your DH) THat is the number one reason why we get dogs back at the shelter because of aggression issues.
Kee--good luck on the seminar! The lady that I got my house quail from is the coordinator for the group in the Chicago area. I can hook you up with her if you want--she is great! (and really knowledgeable too)

DD25 just ran over one of my weed blocking rugs--I heard it. Now she is mad because the mower is jammed up. DS is going out to see if he can help...cant wait for the fireworks! DD19 is still in bed...now that is sleeping late! I am sure she was on the computer with her BF in Cali until all hours of the night!

Great job at the fair! (was it Dornes' kids?) I cant go back that far in the past messages without opening another window and it's too hot for that? Now where did that come from?
hu.gif
DS is back in and the mower is going--they must be growing up....about freakin' time I say! I have a client that told me yesterday to not have any kids...little late I told her! I guess hers are giving her trouble...and they're MY age! Maybe she should have flipped THEM on their backs and showed them who's boss?

You would think that by the time a person is near 50 years old they wouldnt be bugging their Mom for money any longer....or maybe they do? I could not imagine asking my parents!

Well, guess I oughta get the sheets out on the line and see just how hot it really is outside! We have had the little AC unit off for a week now...the house fan cools nicely at night and then the old house keeps the cool in pretty well until the nest night. I can deal with it if it cools down at night!

Have a great day! Remember, anyone that needs something to do is welcome at any time! Terri O

OMG--I forgot why I came on in the first place (besides to say Good Morning that is) Look!!!!

Let me tell you, she was harder to take a pic of than that quail! Just would NOT look at the camera for anything! Her name is Rita....I was going to change it to Cordelia (for the one that met the haybine) but now I am thinking that her name fits her pretty well. Besides, she is way cuter than Cordy was. She looks more like Stuart!

THe people were so nice...we met up in Verona at the F&F last night. Thanks for the hook-up Carol. You truly are the great animal enabler! BTW--DD19 is very excited about the Shetlands! And I keep gorgetting to tell you that I have your BYC shirts from the bash!!! There, now everyone knows and can remind us! (AAADD)

So again, Have a great day!

A sweltering good morning to all! Was up early, walked and played with the doggies before scrubbing bathroom and doing all the hardwood floors... really wish I could trust a mop to do a good job it's tough on the knees! Just ventured back and found my peppers drooping as well as the tomatoes
sad.png
gave 'em a cool drink and they are perking up. I'm a terrible one to grow veggies in containers for sure. Did get 5 cherry tomatoes! woooo. Tomatoes got something going on, but oh well... peppers are going crazy though so it's all good.

Cind Ruddy is adorable. Hope things work out, sometimes it just takes a few days for things to settle down. Today we are going to crate Benny and let the cats wander around so he can see them. He's very curious, but that puppy enthuasium is scaring the blazes outta them. They aren't overly fond of dogs to start with, but they tolerate them as long as they can swat them every time they pass them! A few days of seeing them for an hour or so from his crate should make them not so tempting at least that's my hope.

FT sorry about your guinea going missing

.

H&R congrats on the zippers!

Jim, glad you supplied yourself with a project for today, would hate for you to have nothing to do!

DrH glad to hear peatwo is doing better. Sounds like a fun day ahead.

Carol, can't wait to see your pics of the airshow

for the good news even though I have no clue what it might be

Gaelio sounds like a great zucchini recipe... I'll have to come back later and jot it down, not that I have a single zucchini mind you, but next year....

Geri, the neighbor let us take down a couple of fence panels (and let me have them if I want them for part of the chicken run) behind our house so we could see her garden better... now we have a great view of some of her flowers from the patio! Had to snap some pics this morning for a lady DH works with, so thought I'd share.

Stay cool and have a great day all!

OK not going back either TO. My buddy from Mauston canceled this morning so I called the one in Point and told them not to come because I have to take L's car in for a recall on Tues there and will drop them off some goodies then. TO I vote for Rita, really cool lookin tort! Glad to hear the kids are learnin! Jim I have concords growing everywhere! The problem is, is that I don't see them till they turn then it's holy crap look at all those grapes! From what I HAVE seen looks there will be fresh jelly this year. Haven't had any for 2 years. Normally they produce every other year. Picked the last of the black raspberries this morning. Greased up with spray and still need about 2 pints of blood replaced. Man those bugs are NAS-T this year! Been canning pickles for 3 days in a row glad to givin some more away and gettin a break. Made dills and bread & butters yesterday. Still want to make more B&B's and sweet relish yet. L asked where I was goin yesterday morning? I asked her where do you think? Had a bag in my hand, oh she says.... pickles. I said it's terrible isn't it.

Hauled my retirement supplement in yesterday. [Alum cans] and on the way spied a 20' piece of shedule 40 4" pvc pipe laying in the gutter though well if it's still there upon my return it's going home with me. Don't know what I'll use it for but it's good stuff. Then while makin pickles I saw a truck driving slowy past with a guy hanging out the window lookin the ditch. Jumped in the Jeep and ran em down. Asked them if they were missing something? They were looking for a license plate from a deer hit. Was hoping it was theirs! So more good junk for me I guess.

Hey Everyone,

The new Savannah cat is doing great. DH was SOOO excited. I will try to get pictures once he comes out of his shell more. Right now we have him in his own room until he adjusts. He is so neat looking and pictures do not do him any justice.

Hi All, good news and bad news.. the good news is that I can fix the mower, the bad news is that one Husqvarna dealer went out of business and the other dicided to take July 30 off.. so no spare parts until Monday,, IF they even have them.. two idler pulleys shattered.. I don't know why they make them out of plastic.. Yes I do.. then they can sell parts.. and believe me, Husqvarna parts are not cheap... In the process of blowing apart, the idlers also wrecked the V-Belt..

I stacked 18 bags of feed onto the pinic table, for want of a dry place to store them off the floor,, then I went to FF for 14 bags of Meat Maker.. LOL everytime I head to FF for feed, Annie starts talking about butchering..

I told her that I am planning on getting rid of all the ducks.. Not going to winter any of them.. That is just another chore to feed and water them..

Personnally, I wouldn't mind getting rid of all the birds.. There are plenty of people selling eggs around here.. Nobody is buying chicks/keets/poults like they did a couple of years ago..

All we would have to keep is Tommy and a mate, Huey and his goose, and the Peaocks.. Ken would never let us get rid of them..

There is a gimpy turkey that will meet the freezer when we butcher soon.. The turkey poults are soon ready to be sold.. I like to keep them for 12 weeks..

Sunny Afternoon All...prolly gonna be a kinda lazy day today. Slow walks around the gardens for viewing and picking samples is gonna be about it today. Just to warm for serious stuff, I'm thinkin!

Hope your curly tail works out for you cind! Newbies are always a struggle, eh!

Suzie just made another batch of fresh broccoli salad....I could live on that stuff for a couple months!

This is the second time in my 40 years of gardening that it appears that I have all 8 green pepper plants without a single blossom?
The plants are nice and big and bushy....beautys actually, however....not a blossom on any of them. Has anyone ever had a experience like that with green peppers?

Done with softball for another season, DD's team lost by 3 runs but they played a good game!

We have 3 new baby chicks- all hatched this am before we needed to leave to play ball, hoping that we get a couple to hatch from the Blue Marans hen now
fl.gif
They are still drying out so we'll see what color fluff they have later- all seem to be black with some white.

Are tomatoes seem slow this year- have green ones on the bushes but not ripping very fast, we don't plant peppers.

afternoon, I just eat the rain to the house at 2:10pm .. It came up very fast.. lots of wind preceding the rain.. it is still raining.

I took the tractor down to the end of the garden and pulled out a bunch of scrub ditch brush roots. after I smooth it out, I can go through there with the lawnmower after the grass grows back.. or the new neighbor can mow it , it amounts to about only one swath with his riding mower,,

.Annie made another raspberry pie..

I never had real good luck with peppers.. I manage to get a few each season.. I read somewhere , or heard it, that you should plant peppers so thet their leaves touch the pepper plant next to it... I did that this year.. I planted them 6 inches apart. we will see..
