Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Exciting time to be in Oshkosh, Mother Goose!
Well, Mr. Roo has left his confinement after his run-in with the neighbor's german shepherd. He seems fine in all ways except for his limp. All of my chickens tend to form gangs. Unfortunately, Mr. Roo's gang have decided he's no longer cool. The hens who adored him are following another rooster. Really, what kind of shallow gals are these? Where's loyalty? I'm disappointed, and I feel sorry for Mr. Roo out there limping around by himself, missing a great deal of his tail and back feathers (from being shaken by the dog). Maybe I could give him steroids and muscle him up so he catches the eyes of the hens again.

Hmmmmmm...good idea. And then there will be jealousy. Suddenly the original hens will notice how handsome he really is and then they'll want him again. There might be feather pulling and scratching.

Evening all!

Dh and I got back from Milwaukee around 5, fed the dogs and went to grab a quick bite to eat ourselves. I brought the left overs home for the Girls.

The Seminar went well and it was nice to meet Keedokes and her buddy Cream City (BYC handle). Tyler from Purely Poultry was there and dh got to speak about nutrition and fill in on Common Chicken Ailments since the vet who was scheduled to speak could not make it. Alicia and her dh from Mad City Chickens did a talk on Living With Chickens and Coop Building. I got to talk about How to Handle Your Hen and do a brief show and tell with Millie on How to Perform a Health Check. Then everyone got a chance to handle some chickens. Kee brought 4 very adorable "teens" and I brought Midge, one of my PR's and Millie, one of my my RO's. We also cracked open a "store" egg and one of my eggs to show people the difference in color and consistancy.
They Girls did great hanging in a new place and with people looking at them and being handled by strangers. Meal worm treats were a huge incentive and very popular. They also got a afternoon snack of Coffee Cake/pastry. Very Chicken-licious!
All in all it was a long but super fun day and I enjoyed it very much!

Well, I gonna get ready for bed....I'm tired and tomorrow I have to catch up on my chores that I missed today!
Toodles!

good evening, got mom to bed.. I asked her what she wanted to drink with her night time pills ? BRANDY !! are you sure? I can handle it.. OK, one old fashioned coming up..

we are up to 5 new turkeys.. One has neurological problems,, I expect he will be dead by morning..

One of the new guineas has splayed legs.. I was sort of not too unhappy about it.. I have been thining of how to make a simple splint that one person can apply without help.. I made one and had it on him in about a minute.. He is able to hobble around with it on so he can get to food and drink .. I think is is a success..
all you need is a 3/8" long piece of a popsicle stick and about 2 inches of duct tape about 3/8 inches wide. use the width of the popsicle stick for the spacer between the legs and tape everything together..
he flopped on his side for awhile, but now, about 5 hours later, you can hardly pick him out of the crowd..
by tomorrow I should be able to take the splint off....

I finally got to see the peacock with his tail all furled.. He does not have the long non-feathers yet,,(I have to look up what they are called, again) but he still is a pretty sight..

Jim... we have grapes too but I have no idea what kind. The neighbor says they aren't a good eating grape. We'll have to see when they get ripe. We also have an apple and a pear tree of some sort. 18 bags and getting more? How much feed do you go through in a month? Good job on the splint! BTW... I'll take one of those old fashions as long as your mixing!

Then DH

He dose listen to us, it's just learning what's off limits and rules of the house. With Duke being old and blind, naturally he feels ahead of him in the pack. Duke knows it too and I think it's fine with him. He just doesn't need Ruddy telling him. As for the cats, well, As far as I know, Duke is the only dog they knew so adjustments on all parts there. I was told he gets along with cats.... just haven't seen it yet.

dkv.... I wash floors on my hands and knees too... I've even scrubbed carpets that way before I use the cleaner! Looks like your neighbor has a butterfly garden going there

GC... Yes PICS!!! I would have loved to have seen DH's face when he saw him! Dose he have a name?

Gae.... Good for Mr.Roo! Maybe when he get's back to his ol' self he'll get some of his hens back.

Well, posting early so I can sleep early so I can go to an auction early. Hope it all comes together! LOL
Bad news on the chick front
sad.png
went down to the shed about 2:00 and found one of Jasmines chicks dead. It had a very small wound behind it's right ear, no blood, just broke the skin. It was one of the cochins, wonder if it tried flying up somewhere and hit it's head?

Well, Ruddy only got sent to "time out" once today. The cats are still hiding. He definitely want's to be my dog! Fallows me around and tries to look cute and sweet....it's almost working!

Well, night all!

Well we spent all day yesterday inhaling fumes from painting our basement and need to put on the second coat today. I am just wiped out. had enough time to take some watermelon and fresh water to the chickens yesterday and that was about it. Sat in my outside chairs for a while staring into space... never though painting could wipe me out so bad. Definite sign of getting old!
Stay cool today!
