Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Evening all!
we are getting a little bit of snow here. Just enough to look lit a fine dusting of powdered sugar. Grrrrrr..... At least it's something I guess so I had better take it! Fred Dog is very happy though. He's out running around trying to find enough of a pile of snow to bound into. He is an old one that dog! He hates to get chilled and cold but loves the snow....Go figure!

DH was coming home from up north from one of his pheasant accounts and said it was snowing like crazy up there.

H&R-that suck about your furnace! When we moved in the January before last, the old oil heater lasted until April. It died beyond redemption and we had to get a new one, The one saving grace was that the spring came yearly that year so we did not freeze! We decided to tap into the Natural Gas line. The house was not tapped into it by the previous owner so it was either propane or oil. Anyway, we put in a brand spanking new heater and love it. It ran right around $3000. I think when it was all said and done for instillation it cost $3200. We still have the water heater hooked up to propane though. The old one died before the oil furnace did.

Jim-congrats on the new dog! Hope she works well for you.

Well for those of you who are getting ready to sign off for the holiday weekend: Happy Christmas! Blessing to you and your families this Season and please be safe!
Cheers and holiday hugs to you all!!

Merry CHRISTmas! to u and yours! My cookies and pies are ALL finished, spent the last 3 days on my feet finishing them up. Now for Christmas! lol
Our Christmas is lasting 3 days this year! lol Sat-Mon. See you after Monday! gotta go and wrap so I don't have to do it all tomorrow night! lol

Hey All!
Chickens are fine, I am getting a few more eggs every 2 days.. I think I got a pullet egg from one of my POL kids, that Damien the roo is the dad of, from Hurley!!
I have three pullets from him, one is definitely Jaerhon and Blue cuckoo maran cross, the other is likely.. and the third is an EE/maran cross... so odd, yet soo cute wif
her widdle cheek poofs!!
I will get a pic or pics of them.
I am house/cat/and horse sitting for a friend, they went to Florida for 10 days to visit the kids and grand kids!!

I finally got my check today. I did get a phone call finally from my boss, concerned that my check and pretty much anyone else in the midwest had NOT gotten theirs either...
SO multiple people calling in.. finally made them call to check.. geeez

Happy Holidaze!!

Evening all! Just finished watching a sappy Christmas movie (I love them!) while the fam watched some kind of shoot 'em up movie downstairs. Me and my dog sat in the bed and watched mine on my computer. I was planning on heading to Kohl's tonight yet but I think I will save it for tomorrow...I must be crazy to go shopping on Christmas Eve! I have never done it before but I guess I will do it this year...the full time work this week really threw me for a loop to be sure! Oh well...it is what it is!

Sorry to hear that they dont know what is wrong with the Irish H&R! I hate that...sure wish they could tell you hey? Maybe she doesnt know herself though...hopefully it can be figured out soon and it will be an easy fix!

Our fish was great tonight! I used fresh spinach instead of the frozen the recipe calls for and I liked it way better. It had more spinach taste for sure. Could have had more though...I went down to see if there were any potatoes left and DH was just finishing them up! Snooze ya lose in this house for sure! THree of us are on a team for "Biggest Loser" in the New Year. Each participant will win $1000 if our team has the highest percentage of weight loss. I think I am going to finally do the Elimination diet to see if I can figure our what else is bothering me. It will be a good time for it cause I wont have to cook anything big for the fam. I have to start my research on it and figure out which plan I will use...there are a ton of them. Anyone here ever do one? I am looking for suggestions...

Well I guess I will go down and feed the cats and then read some of my book. I got a bunch from the library and I am now going through them very quickly lately! Way to tired to read for a few hours by them time bedtime rolls around!
Oh yeah...lots of guinea feathers around this morning...I faintly remember them making some noise last night...all I can say is I hope I find their nest early enough this spring so I can hatch more...maybe I should catch them and clip their wings so they cant get up in the tree? Or cut the tree down?

Sweet dreams everyone! Terri O

I almost forgot to tell you about a cookie that I am making tomorrow.
As a child my father made it, his mother was Swedish.. we called it Fuddimund...
It is Fattigmann
http://www.christmas-cookies.com/recipes/recipeprint.php?recid=19
Fattigmann
(aka Futtiman, Fattigmanskakor, Swedish Poor Man's Cookies, Bow Knots, and Rags & Tatters). Rolled out and fried in oil, dusted with powdered sugar.
3 egg yolks
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons heavy cream
1/4 teaspoon crushed cardamom
or 1 teaspoon brandy
1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cup flour
powdered sugar

Beat egg yolks until light. Add sugar and cream, beat well. Blend in cardamom or brandy. Add flour and mix well to make a smooth dough. Roll out to 1/16" thickness. Cut in strips about 1 1/2" wide. Cut diagonally at 4" intervals. Make 2" slit crosswise in centre and slip one end through slit, to make a "bow". Deep fry in hot deep fat (350 F) until delicately browned, about 1-1/2 minutes. Drain on paper towels. Cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Servings: 36

You boys are so sassy. *Shakes her head*

Jim, I know exactly of which breed you speak of. My sis has had one for the past 14 years, but she (the dog) is now in her twilight years. A beautiful dog, but she has had eyesight problems her entire life, and was never very good around any other animals as a result (without extensive training first). I wish you the best of luck with your new dog and hope she brings you many years of enjoyment. And I hope she doesn't get too fat either. They are big dogs to begin with.

But no dog is a threat to a pack of yotes. I have heard that they will have 1 or 2 lure a dog away & then the pack will ambush it. I've heard of it happening quite a few times down here, unfortunately.

H&R, I sure hope your Irish gets healthy for you. And I wish you the best on the furnace sitch.

Hope I didn't annoy anyone there.

Tom, good to hear from you again.

Tat, you can keep your snow.

Not a flake to be seen down here, thank you very much. Just the way I like it.

The girls like it too. They've been running around outside for days now enjoying the snowless weather.

I must scoot. Very busy the next 2 days. Have a great holiday, everyone, and sweet dreams, all!

Merry Christmas Eve Morning all, yes it is 12:09AM !!

Well, made it to Madison. Got up at 5:30am, well actually that is when I set the alarm for, not sure exactly when I got up. Was suppose to leave by 6:30am, was more like 7:30am. Was 15 minutes late !!! Oh well !!!

Then had to wait anyway so was late for my 4pm doc appointmen in Milw by half hour. He said that was ok, it was worth the wait !!!! Gotta love a doctor like that.

I couldn't believe it. It took me FOREVER to get out of Madison !!! The traffic was horrible. Just as bad in Milwaukee !!! Wow, I sound like a country girl hey?

Hit the Half Price Book Store in Madison & Milw (ran in and out in Madison, just checked he pet and agriculture dept, total time 10 minutes) Got some nice books:
Draft Horses and Mules'
The Inner World of Farm Animals
Keeping Ducks and Geese
Hen Keeping Self -Sufficiency
Prisoned Chickens Poisoned Eggs (An inside look at he modern poulry industry)
Pot Bellies and Miniature Pigs

Merry Christmas to me !!
Then hit JoAnn Fabrics and got some waterproof fabric that they use to make baby diapers (for chicken diapers)

By the time I got to my house in Racine (after picking up some Chinese for supper) it was aroundv9:30pm

I am so tired but I want to look at my books but don' have one ounce of energy to even pick one up !!! This was a very draining day.

Sorry to hear about your furnace problems ! That really sucks, yep not good timing.

Jim, Maremas are nice dogs. Similar to the Great Pyrenees. The guy I got my first horse from had a couple of them. They are barkers, just so you know !!! If they are anything like the GP's they tend to patrol the area and the area gets bigger and bigger. It will probably help that it is older and already trained for guard duty !!!
We love our GP's.
Well, my eyes are closing !!! Should just surrender to the night, don't know why it is so hard to do, guess because I'm allergic to mornings !! I still have to go out and get a "Made in he USA" white elephant gift before tomorrow night. I forgot to pick up the ho-made syrup at the neighbors yesterday !!!

Ok, time for bed, MERRY CHRISTMAS Everyone !!!!!! No snow here in Racine either !

I just came on the computer to find a pattern that I lost and just had had to come and see what you all are up to.

Sounds like you got a lot of nice books FT. Lucky you have a store like that to go to for discount books. I have read two of these books. Prisoned Chickens Poisoned eggs is a very informational book, and a good one. However, it is a real tear jerker and I could never finish the whole thing. It tells it like it is, but the sufferring was just too much for me . I like the story about why the rooster crows. It is in the first part of the book.

I have the Inner World of Farm Animals and I just love

that book.

There is about 1/2 inch of snow on the ground here. * * * * * those were snowflakes

It is nice that it is white out.

WCC the cookies sound yummy

Hens@Roos I hope your Irish Setter starts feeling better.

I still need to make 2 more Christmas trees in bottles. Has anyone heard of this?. I get a vase, add pine cones scented lightly with rosemary, pine branches and a string of 35 Christmas lights. Then top it off with a fake snowflake to keep everything inside and plug it in. The heat from the bulbs makes the scent become more prominent. Someone sent me one and I decided to make some because I just thought that was the neatest idea.

I guess I better sign off and search for my pattern now.

Merry Christmas Eve!

FT... congrats on the books!

Any other good things that need to be said!

DH asked what he should bring for Christmas Dinner.... I said "How about ham... He said "Boned or boneless?" .... I said "Boned".... He brought a ham....How long dose it take to cook a 28 lb whole ham?
th.gif
I thought he was talking 1/2 hams! Hope the kids like ham sandwiches!

Went to the coop to feed and water about 3:30 and got 13 eggs including 1 blue. Went to close up about 5:30 and all by itself sat 1 more little tiny blue egg!
