Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Afternoon all!!

My oh my so much to catch up on from yesterday afternoon! I forgot most of it already sorry to say!
So this morning started of well but ended up with DH at urgent care-him not me. I just went along for the ride. On Christmas Day he was messing around with the dogs and big ol' Sax swung his head trying to play keep away with his toy and slammed his fat head right into DH's shin. Fast forward to today and DH's shin is all swollen and red and sore. Turns out he called our doctors office and got the message that they are out of the office until get this Jan 3. Even the nice folks at the hospital urgent care were kind of surprised the doctors office was closed for a week. Anyway, turns out that he has a combo pf celluitis (sp) and a hematoma. So the doc gave him AB's and said if the swelling got redder, bigger, or worse in anyway to come right back to the ER. Then it is really urgent! So, there you have it. We are on wound watch!

What else. I lost two of the little Gold Star chicks. Not surprising. They were really really small and just not quite active and bright from the get go. Everyone else is perky and hale and hearty! They have graduated to shavings and are currently shaving bathing and testing their little wings out even as we speak. Nothing is cuter the little fuzz ball chicks testing their wings at a dead run! They have been excellent chicks to brood.

The Evil One has finally given up his name. I should not say this because I just know he will change it! Token aka The Evil one is still a naughty kitten however, as I was pulling him off of the kitchen table for the millionth time and then pulling him out of the washer, then dryer, then from behind the dryer, I told him that for a barn cat her sure did a whiz bang job at getting a good home with understanding parents! I told him that Barnie might be a good name for a wayward little barn cat but that I detest the name. (No offence to Barnies anywhere!) So that maybe instead of Barnie he was a Barnabas. Bubba to his friends. When I said Barnabus he looked at me like "Darn! She said my name!" So, he is now Bubba Cat.

TO-I 'll go in with you on the Oxine.

DrH-Have they hatched yet? How are you hands? Sore from the hand wringing yet? LOL!! I'd say a smarmy reply like better you then me. but I know my time is just around the corner for the angst of hatching, so I"ll be a good and supportive peep. Can't wait till they hatch!

Angie-When I hatch, I either sell them off asap or keep them around to see who turns in to a what and then get rid of the roos and the pullets I don't want. The roos I either pawn of on someone or process for either the table or the dog bowls. Processing the roosters is actually easier then you might think. Especially if they are mean. I used to be squeemish about processing my roosters. I sold them to the Hispanic crowd for mole (mo-lee). The old ladies had no problem offing them. Eventually, I got used to the idea after I realized that I wanted to start a good breeding program and my mentor to me that I had to be able to cull the ones that did not make the grade. It also helped that about time I had a rank rooster that would not let me feed or water him. At least not with out a fight and he nailed my hand. So I learned that day how to cull. There was no love lost and the dogs had stewed rooster with carrots. I even remember that his name. He was Sully.
Here in Wisconsin though, you can always take your unwanted roosters to a swap and sell them there if you don't want to cull your self.

Well, off I go to make dinner! Chat later

Good evening! Angie--I sell mine to the Mexicans or the Hmongs...they are happy to get them for $5 each per roo. I guess that feels better to me than killing them myself! It is easier anyhow!
Did a bunch of work on the house today...even scrubbed the floor! It looks pretty good in here right now! Unfortunately it will be just as bad in a few days...that is what happens when you have 6 dogs and 10 cats!!!

Hey--great news! I dont know if I told you guys that I had to see the oral surgeon for the bone that was sticking out of my gum...anyhow, I poked at it and it seemed loose so I scratched it with my nail and the shard came out! It feels sooo much better! I am not happy that I spent $$ finding out that it wasnt a tooth...but I am happy that I dont have to go to the surgeon now.

Well, ribs, potatoes, sweets and peas are nearly done--gotta run! Have a great night everyone! Terri O

Jiminy Christmas, TO, how in Samhain did you get a piece of your jawbone to stick out of your gum?!?!?!?!? Didn't it hurt??????????????? I bet it feels better! Yikes, girl!

I have no idea CC! I thought I was growing another tooth at the site of an old wisdom tooth...my Dad gtew another one; thought I might be too! SO the dentist looked at it and said it was not another tooth but was the bone showing through! Gave me a referral to the oral surgeon. The dentist said it wasnt loose so I should go there and they might grind it down(ouch!) or just watch it...today it felt weird and I had been poking at it...then it came out! (Whew!) It is about the size of a half grain o rice. But man, it sure feels better now that my tongue isnt rubbing on it any more! It had a bubble on it earlier in the week and I popped that...maybe that was the infection? I have no idea...just that it feels GOOD now!

No oral surgeon for me!

(maybe I shouldnt be so excited?) I do dislike dentists of all kinds though...

Dinner was delish...I highly recommend a rib rub before baking! I need to go out and water the critters--then to bed. I am going to get some hay tomorrow morning and then to work. Talk to you all tomorrow night! Nighties...Terri O

(PS) WICc--the parakeet is yours if she catches it!

Evening All-
MLH - Anyway, turns out that he has a combo pf celluitis (sp) and a hematoma. So the doc gave him AB's and said if the swelling got redder, bigger, or worse in anyway to come right back to the ER. Then it is really urgent!
Make sure you keep a good eye on it -did they draw a line around it with a marker? My BIL was in the hospital for a week last year and he is a big guy. His shin is still an inch bigger than the other one. Hope it doesn't get any worse.

It was a good day today, got the stairwell painted and tomorrow I am going to tackle the stair treads, lots of sanding, before the stain. Picked up a couple bales of bedding to clean the coop out also.

Speaking of cellulitis, my draft horse had it in his leg. He has a big leg to begin with but it got huge. He was on 20 smz tablets twice a day (40 pills). Took a long time to heal then it came back.

I know he's not a horse but I think either way it is a serious, good thing he went to the ER. (Almost said Vet

Ghost, how is your "spider bite" sore ?

Now that I gave it more thought I remember now having what I thought was a spider bite too, before I knew it was MRSA. Then upon finding out what I had the symptoms of MRSA are a spider bite looking sore !!

So, if anyone thinks they may have a spider bite, and it is very painful and doesn't heal, have it checked for MRSA, you don't want it to get into your blood. I was in the hospital for days and very sick.

Ok, back to reading !!

WCC Hope they catch that parakeet for you. I like parakeets. I had a green one once named Pickles !!!

HELLO out there, JIM are you in there ??? Miss you !!! Hope your're ok !!

Hi all.

Hope everyone who needs to be is on the mend!!!

Not too much to say here. My hand is healing. However, I think Duke has taken a turn for the worse. He threw up this morning right after he ate (by the looks of it). He only went out once and I had to go get him. He barely made back in. The morning he spent in the small bathroom (where he never goes). When he came in from outside he was in the room near the workshop but in a spot he never laid before. After supper he was in the workshop in front of the wood stove. He's NEVER gone down those 2 steps. His breathing goes form pant to shallow and he has "that smell". With luck he'll go in his sleep tonight.

We love him dearly, but he' s almost 17 and has not been good lately. Time for the old guy to get some peace. On that note.... the kitten has been very epithetic. She tries so hard to comfort him but he just doesn't understand.

On a happy note... 17 eggs today!

Yea.... Where oh where has little Jim gone? Where oh where could he be? With his pants cut short and his battor running long, oh where oh where could he be?
(Probably playing with his new dog?)

Night all.

Oh where Oh where have I been ?
good morning, I went to bed at 9PM so I am awake at 2AM..

I got up at 8AM yesterday and by 1 PM I baked 16 dozen dinner rolls for the Christmas party last night.. I ate a T-Bone steak and came home.. I only had 3 hours of sleep the night before..

The new dog has moved right in.. the geese and guineas have not accepted her yet.. rather than walk between her pen and the chicken coop, the geese walk all the way around the garage to get to their feed.. complaining all the way...

the dog's name is Nora.. It is going to be changed.. she doesn't come to it when called anyhow..

she has not barked at all since she got here..

I have most of the chickkens closed in their coop.. I have about 5 more to catch.. I hope to increase egg production.. I put them on a partial ration of layer.. I have a few guineas and a few turkeys in with the chickens.. Annie will have to help me sort them out of there..

today my main project is to clean a fish.. nothing else planned..

HELP !! sound familiar ?
Since it came back, I think the OF thread has been taken over by the Mods and a few of the newbie "chicken for pets" people.. they say how happy they are to have the thread etc ,, but hardly any of the OF's are posting.. It is just a blog for chit chat and trivia..

If some advice gets posted, one of the newbies is bound to dispute the advice as not up to date with whatever they have read or believe.. Good, they know better, let them lead each other down the road of bad advice..
