Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning--thanks to all you well wishes I am feeling much better today!

The nice blue sky and no wind is definitely a plus too! I had a bit to figure out on my computer this morning...apparently I left it open last night and there was much "cat like typing" going on. They turned off the internet connection and the touch pad! Good think I kind of remembered how to fix it.

Ken--it was me that said I would send quail eggs...I didnt hear from you so I boiled them up and turned them into mini-deviled eggs! MMMMM Seriously, if you want some I can collect more. But I need to know when you want them!
DrH--what are we going to do with your enthusiasm about your daughter for a whole MONTH! You had better find something else to occupy your mind...I know! Come and get some more eggs! LOL!
Nice lonk on the hatching article from the magazine FT. That is where the sex determination/temp thing was that Bigz talked about. In the same paragraph it also said what BL4 said about wondering if the temp diff just caused one sex to hatch above the other....I know that folks do it with reptile hatching all the time...but I dont think there are really any indicators for birds. (except those Aussie ones!) That was an interesting article to BTW!

So last night when I went outside the baby goat was sleeping and I got her up to have her suckle again...the doe's bag was REALLY firm so I dont think she is nursing on her own...I am not hopeful.

Well, it's getting late and I have MUCH to do (as usual) so I'd better be off and get to it! Change of plans for the weekend...now I have to take the truck so I cant load my stuff today, DD25 is taking DD20 from Madison to Watertown and the car she has been using is not real reliable. I am letting her use mine...*sigh* Really wish DH would get on the stick and get her truck fixed!

Talk to you all later. Terri O

I live near Burlington... how 'bout you?

Congrats on the hatches!

Well, I cut out the aprons today. Have to figure out where to put the sewing machine, where it is is the room right off the room with the wood burner and it's way to hot in there to work!

Night all!

Hey Cind, where did you get the pattern for the aprons? I bought tons of fabric and am going to start selling aprons and diapers.

Old man Joe, where is your daughter going to vet School ?

She needs to be a large farm animal vet that also does pot belly pigs and chickens. So in other words a livestock vet !!! Talk her into it , we know you can do it !!!
She can move up here. The are short on horse vets !!!

I was going to call you and see if I could meet you on Monday with a monitor on my way to WI Dells. But you got one already so I guess I don't need to worry about it.

BBP: When are you heading to the Dells? Looks like Im going for the long weekend Mid March :) Home sick with DD12 today-last night the So switched a new wireless router and forgot the network passwrds so had to wait for him to send them to me an hour ago to get online. Surprising how much you depend on the internet and miss it when its gone..now I have to decide if I want to log in and actually work from home this afternoon

That article on hatching was very interesting....it seems the key isnt so much changing the sexes as much as allowing hens to hatch and decreases the chance of the roo eggs not hatching.(After recently learning that my nemo fish can change sexes-not much surprises me anymore). The article also mentioned how hatching issues can cause crooked toes...is that the most common reason for crooked toes or is it more related to genetics? Curious as my main roo has crooked toes.

good afternoon,, I just took a few pictures of the peacock in bloom.. but the pics are not showing up on my computer. have to tinker a bit with that..

just a musing : it sure strikes my funny / curious bone that people latch onto bad or misleading information and have such a hard time letting it go.. while on the other hand, when they are offered some real information, like a weasel being called an ermine , they will not accept a true fact..

Nora is definatly in full heat.. I have to see if I can take her to Arpin tomorrow.. I locked her in the lean to pen, but she ripped the chicken wire loose and escaped in a few minutes... I have boarded up the hole, and will put her back in as soon as I can capture her again.. she does not come when called unless she feels it necessary in her mind.. typical of these types of dogs..

if the hatcheries are doing it, and keeping it a secret, then they must have just started it, because I just saw a 2011 documentary about hatcheries and they still had human chicken sorters..

Ok, I'll fan the flames.

JK. Let's just say that even if the temp thing were true & the hatcheries hatched out more females than males, they would still need sexers to be able to tell the difference between them, no? Just sayin'.

And no worries, Jim. We all have our own opinions. We don't all have to agree all the time, but it's all good. I'm a newbie at this hatching stuff so I wanted some opinions on hatching theories. Truth or bunk kind of thing. I value your opinions, Jim. Really, I do. On chicken things.

I hope you're feeling better soon, Cind.

Nice snuggie, FT. Yes, Arnie is definitely a ham. And a pork chop. And a bacon. And............

Jim,

If your refering to the lower heat when incubating-nothing to let go_I don't plan on incubating any time soon. I think its an interesting thought and I would be interested in reading more research on the idea. Hypothesis/ideas/noticed patterns is how new practices are born and its an intriguing thought. Is there anything to it? Probably not...interesting in theory though.
