Sorry, too tired to reply to stuff.

I THINK Storky may have broke her brood!

She was on the roost tonight when I closed up! Dang she was stubborn! However, now one of the Ameraucana hens is broody! Well, I wanted at least a couple broodies...guess I got more than I asked for! Just watch, come time for the April Fools hatch, nobody will be broody

!

I set up the sewing machine in the living room, cleaned it off, found everything I should need to do the aprons and got all ready to go... looked at the time. 2:45 am is too late to start... even for me!

OK, I think it was FT that said that for a April 1 hatch we need to "set" the eggs Mar. 11? When should I start saving eggs? I want to pair up a few hens and roos but I only have 1 area to do it in so I'll have to "rotate" my couples or trios every few days.

Good Morning All! Before I forget again congrats on the bear tag Bigz! I was thinking with increase in population the last couple of years that there would be more tags. I put in for a spring turkey tag for the first time in a couple of years and got that in the mail the other day.

The appraiser came yesterday and he warned me that it might not go through because of the flood. No big deal if it doesn't. I'll live.

been doin it my whole life. Good deal on the breeding Jim! Yes CC it was a lousy year for the Ford. Have to wonder how many people will be putting in deeper wells? And how the lake levels will be? Woke up at 4:30 and couldn't go back to sleep so got up and re-engineered the chimney. When I put it in I was in a hurry and put 2- 90* elbows in it. Didn't like the jog so I took it apart this morning and changed to 2- 45* and a diagonal run. In other words I straightened it out more better.

Was surprised at how clean it was! I'm really likin this stove so far, haven't had to clean the out the fire box at all. Maybe a handfull of ashes in it. The house stays at an even temp too. MLH don't listen to them's that don't knows. Everyone knows Ben is a boys name!

Cute little scudder! Everytime I hear that name it remindes me of the movie Willard. BL4 ah to be young again. We're havin a Marty Grass party too, beers a flowin! But it's a small gathering. L and I. Cheers!

CC...I'm confused like always? I was happy to see you post the information some folks might need to learn....and of course I popped another top.....good nutricious stuff.

What week did you draw Doc? I have the first week....That's my favorite week. We had 2 toms in back of the house yesterday. I think it's already getting wet in the swamp near here whwere they roost for winter.

Gotta go water the flock.

Well I put two incubators into lockdown at the elementary school. There are 7 black copper Marans/BBS Marans, and 3 lavender Orps. I candled on day 17 and all were alive and kicking then. I went with a total dry incubation until lockdown. I hope I did the right thing. But last timeI only got 3 to hatch out of 6, with only one surviving, I thought I couldn't do much worse!

Next week, as we wait for hatchers, I also have an order from Meyers coming. I ordered 2 EE pullets and a white Cochin pullet. What have I done?! Holy chickiness over here!

On top of that, SOMEONE talked me into the Foolish hatch. The instigator will remain nameless, but it does start with a RO and end in BIN...

Bigz got week 4 I always like to go around my Berfday. The woods are coming back to life but this year think it'll happen sooner that'll make it a little tougher. But will enjoy the challenge for sure!

Bf4 I warned you about these people!!!!!! Now look at ya. Hope your hatch goes very well! Every time I bate it's gets better from listening to the sage advice given by these fine folk!

Good Luck with your hunt Doc...glad to hear that you are going to participate in the best time Spring has to offer. I'm going for a grand slam this year...Turkey, bear, buck with bow, and buck with gun. That should provide plenty of time afield this year to try and make up for some lost time last year.

The Sun sure feels great...hope it stays out all day. I'm planning on Venzun loins wrapped in bacon and grilled to perfection, along with grilled potatoes, grilled onions and green peppers. I've been starving for venzun on the grill.

GUESS WHAT? I GOT CHICKIES! lol 2 out of 3, I think #3 was/is behind alittle. we're trying to figure out who the mamas are. Daddy is splash silkie roo.
heres the first chick (4 toes) mama maybe our silver EE/brahma



and the second chick (black skin, 5 toes on each foot)
Mama maybe splash silkie or sparkles (the "sick" one) who is a blue/black silkie. does it LOOK pure silkie? it does have YELLOW feathers on it's feet and that grayish looking color is more yellow?

Congrats on your cute chicks. Hopefully number three will make its appearance soon.

I put the girls out in the garage for a half hour. They were unsure WTH was going on! But it got them into my mini coop, out of the brooder, exposure to colder temps, and let me clean out there messes. You all aren't kidding about the dust...! I also moved their brooder into the colder room. At 3 wks and 5 wks they should be ok. Still have the heat lamp out there, but they are NOT living in my basement until April, so it's time to start acclimating them to some cooler temps.

Off to start nap times, late lunches, treadmill, etc...

bf4m be careful about switching temps. It should be done gradually. What's the temp out in the garage?

Watch for huddling, drowsiness and bloody poop. And make sure that light doesn't burn out !! You've gotten them this far, you don't want to lose them now!!
