Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I'm in WI Dells and we purchased an all inclusive pkg here at Chula Vista. I'm going to gain 20 lbs! Last year on my way home from here I got the phone call that the coyotes had visited and killed most of my birds, including my northern pintails and my ginger call duck drake. I haven't been able to find a breeder with gingers so I can get more.

Hey now, no knocking the FIB's! ;) And the whole marrying your cousin thing happens here too, went to school with kids from such a union.....

Ok, I am going to try and post a pic from the Madi Gras party...... me and my sis (I am the brunette for those of you who do not know....)

Just and FYI, I did NOT earn my beads the traditional way! :D

Afternoon All!!
Woke up this morning to the sound of the blade clearing the snot off the road! I just burrowed in the bed covers a little deeper....Until the dogs made me get up!

Drove out to Abendroths to pick up some pullets for our seminar next week. I will post the seminar info once I talk to DH. It's in Mazonmei, Mazonmionaaa, Mazomenmian....crap I need to look up how to spell the town.....ah... Mazomanie. I don't know all the details since in kinda went in one ear and out the other day when he told me about it! LOL! All I know is that I had to pick up chick for it. They were supposed to hatch today but the hatched yesterday. Anywhooooo..... I will post a Public Peep Announcement a little later today.

Had a great meet up with TO to give her those little Moderns. Poor things! They don't have their little Rhodie body guards to keep Eli at bay! Hopefully he will settle down and enjoy the company!

BBP-sorry to hear about your mom Lavender.

NJ- In a nut shell, Game bird feed in to high in protein for meat birds. If the meaties get to much protein they end up growing to fast and can die from complications.

Had more to say but can't remember and the little chicks are all cheepy in the brooder...
Later!

I love when people try and say Mazomanie!....that might be how I got my name MazoJoe! Lol some how I got pegged as New Joe though!

I heard some crazy chicken people were coming to talk chicken at the hardware store hmmmm might have to show up and put a face to a name, I will look for your posting.

I have a bone to pick with mr and ms coyote and have been putting the lead to them myself, also the coon families that decimated my flock last spring! I really under estimated the coons strength!

luckily I have not had coyotes come into my coop or yard during the day. Although they are loud and close enough with all my single pane windows that i have to turn up the tv at night. I cant seem to spot them even with a full moon!

I'd like to repost and get some sympathy...
My only Lavender Orpington to pip got shrink wrapped!!!:(

I also happened to talk to that teacher who's classroom has the incubator in it. Apparently she took the top off "a couple times" yesterday!! Sh*t!!! Now I don't know if the other three will pip or not. I know humidity is crucial when they've pipped, but can they survive this situation since they HAVEN'T pipped yet?

GGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

Mazojoe, I love that area. My DH's family hails from the Spring Green and Cassville areas. His cousin is the principal at the Brooklyn Elementary School in Oregon, and his other cousin runs a sporting goods store in Mazomanie. How my DH ended up with a FIB for a wife is a long story indeed! ;)

BTW, 1992 here!

Holy Moly you guys are chatty! Been a day and I'm lost (again!) Oh well doing what I can to stay on top of it. All you new baby chick hatchers ARE KILLING ME! OOOOHHHH, I really want some.... OH NO - no room. Let's see how long I can sit on my hands to keep from rounding up some eggs and firing up the incubator. You ALL are total enablers! Actually, thanks for sharing all the pictures -- they are ALL so sweet! If I didn't know how stinky they'd get, I'd be wanting to lay kisses on all of 'em!

I forgot already who wrote this (sorry! I was speed reading!) "Here's something to get you started. At the bottom of the form is a phone number. Best to call and talk to someone. I'm in the process of becoming an LLC (Limited Liability Company)( so if I sell a bad egg they can't take my house) but don't have the money right now.http://www.dor.state.wi.us/forms/sales/s-211.pdf

Very interesting info and I'll look into those links, thanks! We switched home insurance companies last summer and the new insurance company wanted to make sure we were NOT selling chicken eggs before they'd approve us- which led me to believe selling eggs is a liability and may have precluded us from going with USAA (veterans insurance) if I was selling eggs. While it's technically true I have never sold an egg or eggs, I WAS HOPING TO! But now with the insurance questioning it, I haven't done anymore research on it yet, but I've been feeding all the older/extras back to the chickens since I'm not sure what the liability is or difference is between giving or selling eggs? Either way it's not worth being sued over, so I'd rather feed them back to the chickens then worry about it. Hasn't been a huge problem yet since not all of them are laying yet, but it'll be a bigger deal when they are all laying.... Any legal eagles out there know what (if any) difference in liability there is between giving away eggs versus selling them?

Well, I'm beat, my neck hurts so I'm stepping away from the computer for now. I'll be back!

Hope you all enjoy this evening!
Elaine

P.S. I'm seriously getting tired of walking through the mud in the backyard already -- almost lost my boot at least twice! No choice I have to walk through it to get the rabbits but I'm thinking I'll lay down the straw/hay whatever I have sitting in the front yard but it'll be a PITA to get it to the backyard. (Yes, I am lazy right now -- haven't gotten moving & shaking for Spring yet!) This is the WORST year for mud EVER -- and I think it's because my ducks ATE ALL THE LAWN last Fall!!

and a post on that link:

I sell eggs from the house and home baked goods at farm markets & festivals and by delivery, also garden produce, and, this fall we'll be selling butchered lamb and often wonder the same thing. I sold pies to my insurance agent this year and he tried to tell me about all the liability I was setting myself up for if someone got a piece of glass in one of the pies, or if they slipped and fell on their way into the house to buy the eggs. I let it go in one ear and out the other because I thought he was trying to sell me more insurance. I just ordered a book called the "Legal Guide for Direct Farm Marketing" by Neil D. Hamilton for $20 from Growing for Market at 800- 307-8949. It supposedly covers questions about liability, insurance coverage, labor laws, advertising claims, zoning, pesticide drift, inspections, food safety issues, produce, value-added products, meat, poultry, eggs and dairy. I'll let you know if it is worthwhile when I receive it. I've tried to get my questions answered by our Wisconsin Dept. of Ag & Consumer Protection, but spend hours on the phone and get passed from one person to another. Their website is horrendous to navigate! and, they seem to want to rule, regulate and inspect everything. Not practical for me. We just try to be really clean and careful and if we wouldn't eat it or feed it to family and friends, we don't sell it.

I hope this helps!

Really? You would think the Teacher of all people would at least ask first. I hope the other three will hatch for you. That's got to be aggravating. Sorry about the "shrink wrapped ?" chick.
