Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I was wondering if anyone here is going to the pigeon and bantam chicken swap this weekend in Beaver Dam? I've never been to a swap before and I'd like to get a few bantams. I don't know what to expect. If anyone has experience with swaps, please let me know. Thank you.
ps- What a day, huh? Not that winter was so bad this year, but it's always nice to see the grass greening up and a few flowers out. Chickens are finding lots of tasty bugs, too.

Hi again. too hot outside to do anything..

got the trailer hooked to the Blazer and the lights all work.. that was easy..

DrH., I must have missed something.. "mean" ? and what about a weed barrier ? sometimes it happens that a post sneaks in while I am posting, and then I don't get to read it..

OH, the tray with the holes in it.. Yeah, you can slide the part with the holes to one end or the other,,,, OR just stick the tray inside the feed sack and pour feed over the top of it until it is full..
Use something larger than a teaspoon for your scoop..

HarryBun, get to the swap earlier than what the start time is posted.. he who snoozes, loses.
don't be shy .. If somebody is unloading something off their truck that you want, don't wait until they are unloaded.. by that time somebody else will beat you to it..

dicker prices.. and the later it is toward the end of the swap, the prices come down easier.. However, the pickings are much slimmer, too..

do not expect sellers to hold something for you until you get back.. they say they will, but if somebody wants to buy it, they will sell in a heartbeat.. they don't know that you are really coming back..

swaps are fun, and the BBQ's are usually quite tasty..

Jim I'm laying down a weed barrier/mill felt on the fence line will have to throw a little dirt on it to keep it out of the mower. Thinking coated welded wire, that should last awhile. CC they'll be 2 months tomorrow. It was just funny cause Peatwo was bound and determined to win the contest. HarryBun12 Welcome to the cheesehead thread! Hornets are out.

Woohoo! I LOVE today! Rocket, Comet and Apollo (formerly Venus) we're outside all day. The did leave the backyard once. But they came back to see me when I called. :D

They are officially closed up in the mini coop. I hope hope hope they will not be too traumatized by the dark. May be I should put a flashlight out there with them...

Hi folks,

dang talk of AC problems(ain't customers grand?) and Jim "to hot to work",,,,,great day for sure for freaking March!

Think I'll turn on the water line to the greenhouse tomorrow and see IF it is thawed underground,,,much easier than hauling water in a tote and repumping it to the irrigation tape.

Well,,,,picked up 18 chicks today 2.5 wks old (past the cute fuzzy stage) these will include both Copper Blue Marans and Blk Copper Marans, and 2 that I am confused about lol,,,,Bill used a Birchen Maran roo over his best Olive egger, lays big dark olive eggs, they are brown, should be the partridge coloring and carry on the egg type IF they are pullets

.

He had had them on his kitchen table in a big box, house at 60º with just a 60 watt bulb in a trouble light, he likes things simple. I spread some straw in the brooder shack and rigged one 150 watt red bulb, hooked up a second 100 watt higher for backup, I'm sure I'll be checking them a few times tonight just to make sure things are ok. Funny to watch them head for the farthest corner and pile up when I put them in, took 30 mins and I heard some peeping,,,checked them and they were spread out taking a nap after the stressfull day. I'll try some pics tomorrow when the suns out, to busy and then tired to mess with the camera today

bbl to lurk
