Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Morning Everybody! Looks to be a great day ahead! Cind that does sound like a pretty weird set up. Just hope they don't tell you the whole system needs to be replaced

CC glad your water problems are solved too. Have wondered about Deb too and think it was WCC that mentions Hurley once in awhile. H&R that's good news on your mom! FT keep your fingers out of where they don't belong!

Want so bad to put the hook on the tractor and get a stump out of the yard but think it's gonna have to dry up a bit first. Guess draging the driveway with the garden tractor will have to do for now. Measured and staked out the garden addition gonna need a new fence for the whole thing. Thinking of going heavy duty so I don't have to do it again EVER! It was 17'x 30' new one is 25x45. Going to put down a weed barrier on the fence line this time too. Only 3 days left till I pick up the oldest DD

It'll be so good to see her! Big list today better get goin!

Good morning all!

Yesterday morning I really didn't feel like getting up and getting kids ready for school. I decided to let them sleep in and then surprised them by taking all 5 to McDonalds for breakfast. They got to school an hour late, and we're so thrilled with the whole event, they all said thank you several times on their OWN! The prickly child even gave me several hugs too! Good mom morning ;)

Ok, I'm going to kick the big birds out to the coop in the garage today. Seeing as they are all feathered out, and have been having time outside, also with such warm temps... Do I really need to put the lamp on them for night? Or should I do it for a few nights and then be done? Advice please!

Ok... Really have to kid wrangle now!!!!

Hi ho, hi ho, off to work I go! Everyone enjoy this beautiful day today that I will unfortunately miss since I will be cooped up inside a lab all day long....

17 years.... an eternity in this day and age!

Later all!

Good Morning.
Drh - I've been grilling the last couple days. I love cooking on the grill.

Bigfam - I have those days too, where I just don't want to get the kids up. That's awesome you took them out for a treat.

BL4- that's sucks you have to work on this beautiful day. And happy Anniversary early, I'll probably forget by Sunday.

Cindy- good thing your son mentioned the other tank, digging up a leach field isn't fun . I hope your water issues stay away.

I can't wait for the sun to pop out and warm everything up. I got the temp fence up for the chicken run. Once we clear out a few more trees and brush I will make it bigger. I'm taking the chicks out today to let them soak in the sun. The house was like a sauna yesterday I think my Cochin got overheated, he got lethargic and wasn't eating or drinking. I put him in his own cage with electrolytes, food, and a care-bear lol. By time I was ready for bed he was back to normal and drinking and eating like crazy. Good thing too, cause he was one of the boys I wanted to keep. I decided I am keeping the White Cochin as one of my Roos and I wanted to keep one of the Barred Rocks but now I'm told the BR I thought was a boy is actually a girl lol. So now I'm not sure, I may wait to see how many boy silkies I have and keep one of them also. I want to keep 2 males out of the bunch.

good morning all, DrH . did I read it right ? you want to put a fence around your garden? How are you going to get the Fjiord in there to plow and drag?

I often considered putting a fence around my garden, but then the neighbor couldn't get in to drag it for me.. when he is done dragging, it is smooth as a lawn and ready to plant.. I would miss that..
but on the other hand, I could lock the geese in there to do a lot of weeding, if I had only certain crops they wouldn't destroy.. corn, potatoes, tomato plants (before tomatoes set)..
I think I just talked myself out of it, again..

Bf4, I wish my Mom was like you.. she couldn't wait to get us up and out of the house.. I don't know what she did with her days, but I do know there was a lot of coffee drinking going on with all the neighborhood ladies. (prolly a beer or two, too ).... Mom didn't smoke, but there were cigarette butts with lipstick on them in the saucers. hmmm the REAL HOUSEWIVES of Wausau, wisc...

going outside and not coming in until it gets dark.. loving this warm weather..

Morning all!!
I love this weather! Warm but not hot and nice a cool at night! I figured I had better enjoy it before summer comes with all the heat it brings.

Everyone seems to be doing good. The hens are having a fantastic time with the sun in their run. I want to pick up some sand for their run so I might do that today.
The seminar chicks are doing great! The tiny PR is doing much better but the Ameruacana is not. I think she is blind or there is some other genetic issue going on. I think we will need to euthanize her.

WCc-Whoo Hoo! Can't wait to see you at the seminar! Hope you like it!

Elaine- Thanks for the great advise to Tiki! I took notes too!

Kristi-I saw a shed just like that at Costco. It's really nice but I did not like the lack of ventilation.

BigFam4- Is that who your are now? Or was it Smart Mouth?

Ok sorry could not resist! If the nights are mild then try the chicks without a light. If they seem cold then you can always leave it on for a few more days. They will act like the End Of The World is upon them as Mama Lamp is now gone though so it might be hard to tell if they are going through the "I'm cold drama" vs "Mama! Come back!" drama. I'm going through the same thing with Ben and his cohorts. They are on the three season porch, I leave the lamp off at night because seriously they don't need it, but DH wakes up an turns it on for them.

BL4-Happy Anniversary!!!

H&R=Glad to hear the good news about your mom! Congrats on the new addition! Hope she works out for your family! She deffinately hit the doggie lottery!

I know there was more to reply too but I have got to get going.....Enjoy the day all!

BL4- Happy Anniversary! It is always exciting.

We are still looking at the shed. The concerns from some of you are the same as ours, but think it is a great space and just need to modify. Thanks Celtic for the great pics! We are going to expand the run this weekend and then see what we can do for the existing space in the coop to enlarge it.

I have a friend who has an almost 1 year old black australorp rooster she is looking to rehome. He is one of 2 in a backyard flock of a dozen and he is getting overly aggressive to the other rooster and to her kids.

Ona side note, had to deal with our first case of bullying towards my 5 year old. Makes me sad it happens to little ones, but the teacher talked to the bus driver and found out the culprits and they dealt with it really quick and fair which is great. We will see how tomorrow goes on the bus! Enjoy the gorgeous day! Just repotted a bunch of indoor plants that needed some love after taking a nice walk. Pick up my kids soon and find some outdoor stuff to do all day! Hooray!

well I am back in the house, and it is not dark out.. I had my mud boots on, and with just a pair of thin socks, my feet are cold..

I had to hook upthe charger on Annie's car so she could go bumming.. apparently her seat belt buckle was caught in the door overnight and kept the dome light on. ? anyway, I hope that is what it was..

good news.. I collected 4 eggs from the 7 Barred rocks already today.. they doubled since yesterday.. I was beginning to doubt the virocity of the feed mill egg formula.. only one egg from the Dels so far today..

Jim, the neighbor who brings me all sorts of eggs to hatch each summer was just here.. I have 2 doz muscovy eggs for the incubator.. I guess I will be turning a bator on today.. Heeeere we go !!

Now I might as well start setting turkey eggs too.. I am getting up to 4 a day.. and Tommy is doing the 2 minute drill quite often, I noticed..

I am surprised that the geese have not started laying yet.. especially that half breed who doesn't know when to quit , once she gets started.. a couple of the goslings look like they are going to be buffs.. I had a buff last year.. I think it is from that half breed goose..

I counted the guineas this morning as they came out of the coop.. If they all came out, I have 27.. just for sh!ts and giggles, I think I will take inventory one of these days..
right off the top of my head I have:
27 guineas, 9 barred rocks, 8 Delawares, 9 geese, 5 peafowl, 5 quail, 9 Thai fowl, 1 red rooster, 2 red hens, and about 6 assorted mutt hens.. somewhere around 80 total..

DD#2 is coming here shortly to give us respite .. I think I will head into town for some breakfast cooked by somebody other than myself..

My nephew is coming out this afternoon to help me figure out how to cover my two chimneys with a cap on the chimney surround I built.. I have an idea, but I want a second opinion.. He has an Architect degree.. He was taught carpentry by me.. He owes me.. I have 3 nephews with Architect degrees who were all taught by me..

Happy Anni bl4!!!

Glad the water issues got worked out Cind and CC. We had a sump pump failure right when we were about to list our Appleton house; at least insurance paid damages and new carpet to replace the new carpet that got wrecked.

Three young birds didn't make it back into the coop last night (my fault, the pop door got shut early.) Two were walking about this morn. As I was wrapping up feeding, my Jaerhon roo was doing his little dance in front of a stack of plywood leaned up against a shed - sure enough the missing black Amercauna roo was wedged in there. And boy was he stuck! Couldn't find a tree to roost in, the dink. Moved a board and popped him out; he staggered around a bit but seems ok. Now the question is why is the Jaer roo doing his manly dance to this (very shy and submissive) Amer roo??

Enjoy the day - could it get any more gorgeous in March?!?!?

Good morning! I had to laugh and wonder at your last sentence Kristip...I was wondering why you house plants were out for a walk!

Just struck me as funny I guess....

Well H&Rs Mom is out of hospital and mine has been in since Sunday! I talked to her today and she told me that if the Doc doesnt check her out today she was going to check herself out! Her BP has beed really high (even with meds) and she has been having A-fib issues with her heart. She claims she has had this all her life so no big deal...I feel sorry for my Dad! Then he called me yesterday to tell me that my Uncle has passed away! I really felt bad for him then because he couldnt even SAY it...I had to guess...my Dad is the "strong ans silent" type so to hear him all choked up was hard. Uncle Clarence has been doing poorly for a long time now but still...to lose your older brother...not it is just my Dad and my Aunt left of his family. My Aunt lived with us when I was little because their parents both died when she was only 15 or so...

Such nice weather for sure...I slept really great last night after gardening, loading and unloading 2 loads of hay, moving all quail outside, cooking dinner and hanging laundry! Nothing likd the sleep after being outside all day...someone else commented n that too.
MLF--are you guys going to do a seminar in Lake Mills too? They have just OKed the chicken keeping ordinance ya know....
I am glad the water problems have been cleared up for everyone! That is certainly not a welcome problem to have!

There was sooo much more...but it is getting late and I need to get outside...and call Carol to see if we are still riding horses today!

Later----Terri O
