Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Caught a snapping turtle yesterday...I can't believe all the turtles out already. Last year if I remember correctly, I was still breaking off 5" or 6" shelf ice of the sides of the creek bank to make beaver sets!

Happy Birthday Amyable!!!!!

Dr.H congrats!

Um.... forgot everything else. Going to visit a brand new baby..... gotta get my baby fix in!

Later all! Enjoy this weather!

good morning, despite the fact that I just dropped the coffee pot and the bottom broke completely out.. so if I sound gruff this morning, it's because I have not had my coffee.. I have no excuse for any other mornings..

I finally caught a rat in the live trap last night.. I have been trying for months.. now I have to dispose of him.. thinking of a road trip .. who needs a rat ??

there were five guineas that slept in the pine tree last night.. there are 5 running around this morning.. one of these nights the owl is going to get wise..

can't......think.......must.....................have .....coff,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Jim I tend to be the Coffe Fairy... I rescue people from coffee headaches and general grumpiness by dropping off cups of coffee to them. However...by the time I could get up by you, you could have gone to the gas station yourself. Sorry Mate!

Good Morning all !!!

Well, I have 2 dozen duck eggs, waiting a few more days to get a full bator full !!!
Now before you all get eggcited, I'm hatching some out for my farrier remember !!

I also got another goose egg today !!!

Now the questiong is to all of you Pro Duck and Goose hatchers ................. Yes Jim, You are one of them !!!! Or the only one????

Do I wash the dirty duck eggs, just rinse them or leave em? I hate to see dirty eggs in a bator and well you know how ducks are !!! LOL

Also what about the geese eggs? Will they fit in the regular egg turner or do I need to order a turner for goose size eggs? Suppose I could just try it but I'm not in that room right now !! LOL

I'm really thinking about cancelling my doctor appointments on Friday and not going to Racine. I'm just overwhelmed with everything around here. Setting eggs and making room for chicks is stressful

OK, still trying to wake up, will post more later.

Oh Happy Birthday Amyable !!! 21 again hey?

bf4me, I am stuck here ,, can't leave to go to the gas station.. I am on Gramma watch..
dying,,,,,,,,,,,,dying,,,,,,,OOooooh....

Sandi.. I clean all my eggs except the really clean ones that don't need it..

You can modify your Hova turner by removing every other tray.. then take some welded mesh wire and form troughs for the goose eggs,, then they will lie on their sides and you can get about 4 in each trough.. I used the 1/4 " mesh.. hold them onto the trays with tiny bolts and nuts..

I hear noises upstairs.. Annie is here with the new pot..

Morning...I slept until 9! I guess riding makes me as tired as driving. On my second cuppa--sorry Jim! Get yourself to the thrift store and pick up another pot...alternatively you can put a pyrex measuring cup under the spigot and brew in there...been there done that more than once!
The funeral went as well as funerals do I guess. My two brothers and their wives came. I was glad that our family was at least represented--even though Mom and Dad didnt show up! (one of my brothers was REALLY ticked!) I met lots of second and third cousins that I didnt even know I had! THen we went over to my cousin Jim's log house he built---all I can say is WOW! He was a really weird little kid but man did he turn into a talented guy! He tried to sent me home with cats and chickens...there was this one that was white with dime-sized back spots on it...yeah I NEED some of those! I was thinking that they are speckled sussex but I am going to take a look around and see....

So I see everyone is still enjoying the weather! I was surprised when I got home last night that there was water on top the corn barrel...we didnt hit any rain at all on the trip! Weird...I was glad though...my lettuce seeds got watered!
Well--sounds like my neighbor just stopped---still in my jammies...gotta run! Laters--Terri O

(PS) Welcome Rob!

Morning all!

Not much new here. The new rabbits are settling in but seem a little stand offish. The doe more then the buck. Not a surprise there!

I have a hen outside who must be laying an asteroid....she has been cackling for the last 30 mins.....either that or her nest spot is occupied....

Welcome toastedrob1! I like rob....but Im sure some one will come up with something snappy! H&R gave you some really nice breeds and for my 2Cents I like the Barred Plymouth Rock, Production Red, Gold or Red Sex links, Buff Orpington, Australorp, and Silver or Gold Laced Wyandotts. All make great beginner chicken owner birds, are super friendly, docile, and lay well. They lay brown eggs and are cold hardy breeds.
Ameruacanas lay a green, blue, or pink tinted egg. They are average egg layers as they are not breed for production purposes. They actually do well in cold weather. Most Ameruacana's from a hatchery setting are actually Easter Eggers since they do not meet the breed Standard Of Perfection for Ameruacana's set forth by the American Poultry Association (APA). They are very popular in backyard flocks as they can be friendly, docile and lay those much coveted green eggs!

DrH-Congrats on your DD's engagement! That is terrific!

BigFam-I noticed the kilt too

.....It's in my genetics and the Scottish lass in me....Last October when I was in Cali visiting the fam, I helped out at our Clan booth during our local Highland Games. Ahhh.....so many kilts to admire.....Especially on the pipers....ahhhhhhh........

Aply---LOL!! Your dh will have "his" chickens before you know it! Then you will need more space, more coops for 'his" chickens. He will plan out a huge coop complete will all the bells and whistles for "his" girls!! I can just see it now....you are in trouble now!! LOL!!!
Glad to hear the dog is behaving himself!

Happy Birthday Amy!!! Hope you have a great one!

Jim-that is simply tragic about your coffee pot....I'm glad Annie was able to come to your rescue!

Ok some dog is very pootie butted....They must need to go outside.....
Well, I'd best be off....things to do and sun light is aburnin'......
