Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

EL-Awwwww....that is a pullet egg...very cute! They usually law a few of those right out of the gate so to speak....The eggs will start to get bigger as the hen lays more.

Really? You think so? I know it sounds like such a silly question, but I just can't tell! How would I know for sure? I have 6 due to start laying. We occassionally, as in very rarely got a smallish egg before this. We got our first really small one like this about a month ago but it was way too early for our new ones to start laying! They are only 15 weeks right now, so a month ago they would have been 11 weeks? Anyway, we had been getting about 5 eggs per day consistently from our 8 adults and 6 teens (not yet laying). Then, we got another adult and it stressed them all out and we were down to 2-4 eggs a day for the past month. Still ever so rarely getting one teeny egg like that. Now today we got 7 eggs. That's the most in one day we've gotten since a mink killed 7 of our chickens a month or so ago. I suppose time will tell huh? I've never had newly laying chickens and I honestly thought the smalls would be even smaller than this!

OK babies pictures... ripped off Amyables idea for their photos shoot...

Lavender Orpington pullet, and Black Split Lav pullet

Gold Laced Orpington pullets

Mystery Orpingtons...
the brown one is a slightly different brown than the gold laced. Came from a labeled egg that was from a chocolate roo over a buff. My only roo in this bunch...
The other one came from an egg not labled. a possible split, but i dont think so because it doesnt have the white markings that the splits have. So Im not sure, but its a pullet...

Ok BigFam, do you have as hard a time as me keeping them in the cup for the pics?? And I found out Runners are named such for a good reason.

absolutely craptastic, I was just going to go and take the clothes of the line and looked out the window and it is raining!
Been there, done that. It's just the Redneck Second Rinse. Sometimes mine get a third or fourth.

Bl4, love the prom pics. They all look so sophisticated. So disappointing the weather couldn't have been better for them.

At least it sounds like they had a lot of fun. Oh, and before I forget again, I would love to buy a few bars of your Ricola-smelling soap at the bash if you will have any available. Pretty please.

Terri, please tell yor DH that I'm very sorry to hear about your cat. That had to be terrible to come home to.

Glad you have new fuzzies!

Bigz, what's with the ugly nonsense? I think you're quite handsome. See girls? That is how you get to be the bestest.

I was hoping Junior would have the pedal at the end. Not this time.

Bl4, don't worry too much. Today's cars have barely enough room to get a cramp in.

Amy, those duckie pics are so adorable! Redneck 2nd rinse.

Ken, you had all those trees cut down and you took them to the dump????? Oh, that is just wrong! That poor chick of yours looks wrong too, poor little thing. Brrrr and yeouch!!!!!

cs, my dust bath area has dirt, sand, wood ashes, DE & some 5% Sevin mixed in.

EL, I too would love to have a Guernsey or a Jersey, but a mini cow. They are so darn cute! We used to have someone on here last year that lived on a dairy farm who had jerseys, & had a neighbor who had one of their dairy barns burn down. No cows were injured, but they lost a lot of equipment. Who was that? I feel bad I can't remember. She used to be a regular. As for your smaller egg, it very well could be a pullet egg. I have never had such small eggs (like I'm getting now) ever, but I also never had a pullet lay at so young an age before either. My previous pullets started around 16 weeks +/- and had eggs about the size of your small one.

Twiz! Happy to have you join us. Hope you like it here & visit often.

Awwww, cute orp roos you got there, Bigfam! I wouldn't put too much faith in that feather sexing thing. I did that with those 3 I got from you, and my supposed roo has absolutely no signs of being a boy.

That black mystery one looks interesting. And I can't wait to see what the chocolate split will look like. Intriguing.

Mazo, so sorry to hear about your friend and your coworkers mom. That is terrible.

I can't believe I got caught up with all the posts. Whew! I spent the day doing laundry & working out by the chickens, trying to shuffle them around. I tried putting Moose back in with his ladies & his teen kids, but they keep pecking & pulling his feathers out, and the big dummy just stands there!
barnie.gif
So I put him in with the rabbit & ousted the lavs to be out with everyone else full time. They spend the days out with everyone, but at night go back into "their" area. Well, they aren't very bright either because they rarely sleep on a roost, opting for the floor instead which is where they are right now. But NOT in the coop.
he.gif
They are out in the carport laying in a pile on the ground by the fence, with Moose right on the other side. Tomorrow night, I guess I'll see if they want to sleep with the Mooster. Dumb clucks. At least they're all under a heat lamp.

Guess that's all. Sweet dreams, all!

Wow you all been chatty hehehe Sorry for all the bad news with the kitty and the Family and friends death... man these kinda things sure do stink, and make you think. Sorry again
way too much to remember who said what, so I just will say welcome newby I did see 1 of those too...........
Jim..... my Delaware hens are being jerks about giving me some eggs to hatch, I have been collecting since friday and got 2 del eggs out a that pen.....they are very mad at me for penning them up with that young rooster.....or not being able to get in the big coop....... I hope they get back to normal soon. or I will be waiting to hatch eggs until July........ arggggggg I wanted to have a batch hatched before the bash, but I'm thinking that ain't happening now............ wish I had your luck with eggs and chicks.

Some awsum cute pictures have been posted the last couple days.I love them Lav chicks and how very cute are those ducklings..................... makes me want some but we ain't so crazy about dark meat, maybe 1 day I will get some just for a pet, for the kids.... If I ever get enough chickens to sell eggs, to pay for feed that is.............LOL Thats why we don't keep Guinnies (SP) dark meat, but I love them little creatures, my neighbors come to visit once in a while so I get to enjoy watching them as they comb my yard for bugs

On a side note anyone close to me that knows anyone who sells good hay for horses? my supplier is out except for large rounds, and I will need to get hay this next week I need small squares I can only fit 75 at atime in my barn, Craigs list is full of adds Ppl wanting hay or way over priced hay, 4 and 5 bucks a bale....... I ain't never paid more than 2.50 a bale for alfalfa grass or either or........ geeeeeeeesh lets play lets get rich at the end of the season, so we can take advantage of ppl who run out.......arggggggggg I hate that, makes me crazy. I expect it to go up this season because oif gas but last years crop should not basically double in price over the winter !!!!!!!!!!! anyway have a great night everyone sleep well ........Kim

I took the 2" sticks, leaves and rot to the dump. All the wood got cut and stacked. Now I have to let it season a year and split it come first hard frost. It is 40 degrees tonight, we had an awesome green branch fire! How dare you assume that I would waste wood.

I have no idea what is going to happen with that little peep.

KEN

Thanks CC, this is her first BF and they have only been 'official' since last Monday, so no backseats of cars any time soon! This kid took a Women's Self Defense course so I think she can handle herself quite well. They all had an absolute blast! I was really quite shocked that the DBF even went; he is homeschooled so this had to be quite the experience for him! Shopping for new clothes, getting the GF approval of the outfit he chose (he sent her pics from his phone to hers), the hour long photo session, going to the fancy restaurant, and the dancing..... today they were shooting bows.... that's my DD! Princess one minute and sportswoman the next!
wink.png
I told her today she was born under the wrong sign..... she should have been a Gemini...... Anyway the DBF left here last night around 1:30 and came home to his cow in labor.... calf was born around 5:30 and he finally got into bed by 7:30.... loooonnnnngggggg night for that kiddo.

My son was sort of roped into going by me; my DD had made plans to go to Prom with her girlfriend in the pic months ago.... never thinking she might have a BF by then... the school does not allow you to bring more than one person who does not attend the school (her GF attends the local parochial HS) and of course when we were discussing this issue my DS walked into the room at the WRONG time. He is such a good sport though, he had no problems at all with getting dressed up and being her escort. They all had a lot of fun (the pics plastered all over FB can attest to that!).

Thank you for the info Jim, I let my DD inform the DBF about the goose eggs. I did have them toss one, it had big black spots growing inside of it. I had to look up Buff Pomeranian geese, they are a breed from Germany. If anybody would like to check them out.....

BigFam, love your dinnerware pattern. The chicks are cute too!

TO, sorry about your cat and I know how you feel, we have a few piss-pots around here that the DH is just itching to 'take care of'. Good thing they are old or I would be re-homing the offenders.

I should probably get to bed! Holy cow it is almost midnight! Night all!

Yes CC I will be bringing soap! I need to come up with a name for my soap too..... Oh the Ricola soap no longer smells like the cough drops, it smells like spearmint gum.
roll.png
I need to make more tomorrow, I am out of Lavender, and I should probably make more that has 'stuff' in it like coffee grounds, oatmeal, poppy seeds, etc.
